dodge 4x4 dually owners owners

Post by hydehunter »

I am going to fly to another state and pick up a 2010 4x4 1 ton Dodge dually and have a 5th wheel hitch put on there then travel to another state and pick up a 2008 33SBLE.my question is: will there be any height problem with that truck and trailer?the Reese hitch says it goes as low 13" above the floor of the bed. my worry is about the trailer hitting the top of the pu bed since Dodge trucks sit high. I will not have time to do any height modifications to the bird back there so I look for your help form the owners of this type of truck thanks Jim

I think everything should be okay we had a member who purchased an 09 Dodge 4x4 dually in Kingman AZ when their old 2500 2x4 broke down and they had a hitch installed and didn't have a problem with height.

The only place people seem to have problems with space is if the king pin on the trailer is a Rota Flex. Not sure what KingPin came with the 2008s. If it is a Lippert style hitch, a MorGuard or a Trail Air Air Glide there seems to be no problems.

If your truck is a short bed and you have a slider hitch you may have a problem with th pin box hitting the tail gate when the hitch is slide back. I was able to leave the tail gate down when the hitch was slid back.

Jim

If your trailer has a Rota Flex on the pin box you will most likely have a problem. I have had problems when backing up a driveway that goes over a side walk that is high and then dips down the other side.
The Rota Flex will hit the truck bed in this instance. I would have your hitch installed high for now if possiable. But watch your turn's if its not close to level.
No Rota Flex no problem.
Oh bty I lowered my Dodge and sloved the problem.

Does dodge make a dually with a short bed?

yes we were looking at a bunch of dually' s this morning long and short beds.the short bed mega cab is cool you fold the rear seats forward and you have a big flat area that you could sleep in if needed the wife wants that one but I really don't want to deal with a slider hitch or the extra cost of one so it will most likely be a long bed.looks like we will buy the truck locally as the price difference between the new truck and the used 2010 is only 2,000 dollars so may as well get a new one. so now we will have to find a new bird in Calif as the one we wanted to get is in Mass and that is a little to far to go to pickup. but just a little worried about clearance between the trailer and bed rails.

Jim
Clearence between the bed rails wasn't really the problem. the problem comes in when your turning. The roter flex pin box is to long for much more than about 45 dg turns. The back of the pin box will hit the bed when making a sharp turn. I know because I hit mine. Some have trimed the pin box, do a search here, some photos. I just lowered my 2005 4x4 dually. No problem. Just remove the shims that make it higher. But if you don't get a bird with a rota flex pin box no problem.
