Randy, I am glad you had a chance to load your new 2011 Ford with a larger trailer and share your findings, we are getting a lot of feed back about the GM trucks and it great to hear how the new Fords are doing also.
Keep us updated about Fuel use and other things of interest.

Nice truck George! I see you just couldn't stand it once Mike got his new truck and you got a few rides in it. I too like the GMC front end, it's more refined.

My buddy has a 2011 Dmax and he's about to go nuts with all of the regens that he's getting, are you guys having the same problem?

Mine was fine until a couple months ago, regening about the same as my 08 around 350 miles instead of the 600 it use to regen at. Goes to the shop tomorrow to see if they can figure it out I think i have a bad sensor or a partial plugged dpf. Very few of the trucks are having this problem but I guess Im one of the lucky ones. =)) We shall see, still love the truck and would do it all over again in a second plus not much you can do now a days thanks to the EPA guidelines.

I only towed it 60 miles but like I said before, in WV you are either going uphill or down hill. I am now convinced that the new F350 will handle anything that the wife wants and whatever she puts in it :thumbrt:
Thanks for the report Randy. Like George said we don't hear much from the new Ford owners although there seems to be plenty of new owners based on their signature. I must say I've been looking at the new Fords so who knows maybe in a couple of years...

Other than the trouble I had towing out west last year, I do not even know it when my truck is in regen. Every once in awhile, I can smell it, especially if I have to stop while it is in regen. Towed 6 hours this past weekend and never knew when it was in regen.

Am curious if GM will step up to the plate and cover sensors under the 100,000 mile warranty. They are covered under the bumper to bumper.

I'm impressed with all the newer diesel rigs. Some might even say they are overpowered! :) I do know my 6.4 F350 is finally getting broken in, after 24k miles or so, mileage has improved to around 10.5 mpg in towing and empty freeway use, mostly towing. And it can haul 23,000 lbs of truck and trailer up Sherwin grade (US395, between Bishop and Tom's Place, CA, pass elevation 7400 ft or so) on a hot day, air conditioner on, temps in the middle and pedal left at 55 mph. Engine braking in Tow/Haul is great going the other way.

With the 2011 GM trucks they have the 9th injector so you dont get the smell anymore. If you do not have a gauge that lets you know you are in regen you would not know unless you stop and notice your idle is way up. By now Olbirds truck has gone through regen and im not sure he has noticed since when working right it is pretty seamless.

I have not notice if it did go to regen yet, I do know it gets great fuel mileage while towing.
The truck is showing 13.1 MPG for a 4 hour pull with no use of the truck while camping, I will have to check when I fill up to check true use.

My Ford tells me when it goes into regen. It has a message that shows on the screen in the guage area. I have only seen it 2 times in 2100 miles. It could have popped up and I did not notice it.

Mike,
Since you got one of the first units built you may still be having the growing pains that come with new designs. Hang in there and you'll get it worked out.

Oh I know not really worried about it they did find a code today but it had more to do with the def injection. They had a newer flash but I elected not to have it done at this time. There is a guy out there that his is going into regen every 79 miles and when they find the fix for his I will pass the info on to the dealer when i get back from the rally. But on the good side I did get the oil, filter and def filled up plus tire rotated today so all is well for now.. :d Plus bought 3 extra gallons of DEF for the trip.
