Underside corrosion

Post by teallen »

I spent the entire day yesterday on my back under my truck inspecting and cleaning corrosion. I was amazed after 3 years of the amount of corrosion setting in on cross member supports, frame attachment points, etc. Used a wire brush, washed, then applied Chassis Saver to hopefully arrest the corrosion. Any other good ideas as to what to do? Can you take your vehicle anywhere for commercial applications on an older truck?

Ziebart can treat the rusted areas with a special rust stop that they have then apply undercoating. I had it done on a truck that I purchased that was 2 years old and it turned out great. I have had the last 5 trucks done but have not kept one longer than 4 years so I can't really tell you what the long term results are. I also take them back every year and they will treat any areas that need it. The cost here is less than $400 and that includes rust proofing inside all of the doors and hood. I think that you can opt for undercoating only.

Here's a thought Tom....Leave Michigan in late Oct. and don't return until May 1st, on second thought make that May 15th!! =)) =))

Just kidding.. I think Zebart is a good product and I think they give a life time warranty.

Rust Reformer is an excellent product to neutralize rust, just get off the loose stuff and brush on Rust Reformer. I would not spray any type of undercoating on anything that has already started to show signs of corrosion as it will seal the problem in and only hide the problem for a short time.

The product I used was Chassis Saver, it says it does the same thing, stops the rust, just a real pain working on the underside of the truck on my back. Sure wish I had a truck lift. :|
