Still having truck problems

Post by teallen »

Well am sitting in Rapid City, my water separator light and wrench light started flashing again today, took a trip to HIll City to see what the hills are like, the truck had some low power trying to make it (without RV). Cannot get an appointment with Ford until next week. Funny thing is after leaving the Ford dealer , I stopped and filled up with fuel because I had a quarter tank left, did some driving and after about 20 miles both warning lights disappeared and the truck had good power again. Cannot figure this out. My main issue is that if it continues I may not make it to Hill City because I could not pull that rig up the 2 or 3 hills to get to the KOA, we will see if those warning lights come back on and the power is reduced again. Anyway will try and get hold of Don Wilson in case I have to cancel the reservations.

Tom, drain the seperator.
If not, I'll pull you into Hill City on Sunday if I don't need a slider hitch.

We had that happen with a motor home we had. We had picked up some bad fuel. We put in a new fuel filter and we were good to go. Hope it's something simple to fix.

I have a pull rite hitch, unless someone has a pull rite with the adapter plate it cannot be hauled.

John, when I had it in the dealer in Minnesota two days ago, they checked the seperator and there was no water, so I don't think that is the problem.

Mike, they replaced the air and fuel filter, it ran OK the 1st day then the seperator light came on yesterday and then the wrench warning light came on today. Again it is strange it would work Ok for 500 miles in 100 degree heat and then start over again.

It still sounds like you got a bad load of fuel and it plugged the fuel filter up again. Is there a place where you can get the fuel filter changed to see if that is the problem.

Mike, I am pretty sure I did not use bio fuel, I look for that at every pump, I have an appointment next Tuesday at the ford dealer in sturgis, hopefully they will figure it out, in the mean time have to decide whether I will make it to Hill City. If I don't make it I hope I can get a refund.

This time I would have them drain the tank and flush the fuel lines. I certainly sounds like bad fuel. Now that I think about it you've probably already put new fuel in if you've gone 500 miles. If so, you're probably still filtering out the crud. The filters are doing exactly what they are suppose to do and protecting your engine.

If you'll be in Sturgis you're nearly at the rally.

When we had the bad fuel, the guy that sold me the new fuel filters sold me three of them. His idea was that if I had bad fuel to just keep replacing the filter. We only need the one, and on the motor home it was easy to get at and replace.

Sounds like bad fuel to me as well. I carry a spare filter in the truck. PITA to change. But it can be done on the side of the road.
