Is He, or Isn't He getting a 2012

Post by Chief409 »

I'm talking to the dealer Saturday about a 2012 F350 Lariat FX4 dually. One concern is the Ford Sync, which is included with the Lariat package, and is it compatible with the Transfer Flow TRAX II aux tank system. I talked to the folks at Transfer Flow this morning, and they were up front - we haven't seen a 2012 yet, so, we don't know. OK, honest answer, and perhaps I'll be the guinea pig.

So, I'll be talking to the dealer Saturday, IF I like what I see, I'll be getting Bubba II.

That's a surprising concern Jeff. We have Sync in our Fusion hybrid and I'm curious about what it would have to do with your TRAX II.

Rob, when I talked to Transfer Flow, they hadn't seen a 2012 Lariat or King Ranch yet, so they didn't know if the interface they have been using for the TRAX II is the same.

I hope they have a Lariat on the lot. I want to see more then the interactive demo on the Ford website. You know how reality is often different then what you see on a computer screen.

I am somewhat wondering the same thing....The "Sync" is sort of the wireless, and internal navigation, sound system for Ford.

The Transfer flow, is wired isin't it??? It uses figgures it gleans, to figgure how much left,Gallons, miles etc.................... :?: :?:

On reading your reply, so the Transfer 'Interfaces" with the sync?? :-B Also, dosen't the Super duty still have sort of the same 'Speedo" display, as the old system, and I think (on ones I have seen) , the "Sync" display is a "Large", or " small" box off to the side , right ???

Sorry to tax your brain so early, on West coast time =))

The TRAX II plugs into the trucks wire harness, gets it's power that way and directly reads the signal from the trucks fuel gauge. Hopefully the wire connections remain the same as my '09.

Mark, they're putting "Glass Panels" on the dash now with the Sync. Nobody has a 2012 SD on their lot right now in this area, I would really like to try all this out before signing on the dotted line. Too bad the 2011 trucks available are lacking things I consider mandatory, like the 5th wheel prep, rear camera, tailgate step and the spray in bed liner, or I'd have something coming, and saving some $$$ to boot. Oh well.

Without having tried it (yet), and Rob can sure fill in or correct me as he has it in his car, Sync is the integration of the entertainment, cell phone and now truck information using voice commands or buttons on the steering wheel and using displays mounted on the panel. Instead of using a built in system like you have with On Star, you use Bluetooth to link your cell phone, the system will download your contacts list (some, but not all cell phones), and can call 911 with position information if you have the Navigation option, and enable it. The wheel has enough buttons on it to make any fighter jockey happy, and you can also use those to call up the various information displays, set favorite programmed displays so only one or two pushes of a button will bring your favorite info up, talk to the Navigation system and a bunch more.

For the 2012 models I understand Sync is even supporting smartphone apps. More gadgets for the gadget lovers!

Placed the order for a 2012 F350 DRW FX4, 6.7 diesel with 3:73 limited slip rear, Lariat, Two tone paint, Oxford White with Pale Adobe, black interior, leather heated/cooled bucket seats today. Best guess is two months to get it built.

Ah, the "new truck" smell again...
Just ordered the adapter kit so the Signature hitch can be used with the Ford installed rails. As soon as Bubba II is broken in, we'll be "On the Road!"

Well mine came home from the rally with 44 memories on it but I still like it. Kind of hurts watching those new trucks get beat up but as Susanna says it gives it character.
