Just had to scratch the itch!

I have found the mpg towing to be about 11.5 to 11.9 depending on speed. City mpg is running about 15 to 17 and highway average is 20 to 21.5 again depending on speed. The truck accelarates much faster towing than my 2008 Ford diesel. Passing is much faster with it's great midrange power. I feel more in control towing with this 2011 Ford than in any other Ford I have owned. Currently I have 7500 miles on it. The mileage should improve.

The dash computer is operated by controls on the steering wheel with all sorts of screens for off road grades, instant mpg calculations, trip odometer with hours, ave mpg, distance, fuel used, another setting runs all the pre departure checks we all go thru with the truck prior to towing, maintenance reminders, engine system checks, language options, My Key settings to control speed and radio volume if you let someone borrow the truck.

I really like the engine and how quiet it is, the six speed transmission performs smoothly, and the Lariat seats with heat and cooled are really comfortable on long trips. The stereo system with the 8 door speakers plus a subwoofer behind the rear seats is the best I have ever heard in a truck. I also love the two tone paint scheme, the leather front bench seating, the tailgate step, and the huge tow mirrors, all not available on GM products.

These are the reasons why it's the best Ford I have ever owned.

The joke on the Ford Diesel Forums is if you take the $50,000 test drive you are hooked. I test drove mine in Vermont, I was setting the Sirius stations while driving I-91 and took it to Wendy's for lunch, I was hooked. After I bought it I called my wife in Boston at her job and told her. She was more upset that I would be late for supper, and that I bought the truck with four days to go before our Ohio vacation.

Have had the new truck about three weeks now and everyday I find something that I didn't know it would do. Highway mileage without a trailer is running 20 to 21.5. City driving seems to be around 16.5. The comfort level, ride, and handling are light years ahead of my '06.

Jeez Gerry, here I am trying to suppress these urges for a new truck and you come out with reports like that!

Sounds like the new ford and chevy trucks are getting about the same mpg which is great.

David, you have large trailer does the new Fords need any added spring support (air bags) or does it set mostly level to high with your pin weight.
The mileage does seem to be very close between GM and Ford.

Truck does not squat when hooked up. In fact even though the Cardinal is far heavier than my 2007 Cedar Creek, this new Ford tows level.
