New F-350 in the Shop Already

Post by rlhedlund »

Today was the first shop day for the new F-350. Less than 1000 miles. When I picked the truck up Friday night, before I could even get out of Tarboro, NC, the engine light came on. Well, after clearing the code and it coming back on 3-4 times, I brought it in this morning. Am told the DEF tank heater needs a part. Supposed to get it back tomorrow. Hope this is not the beginning of a trend.

I did get the fifth wheel hitch rails installed before I brought the truck into the shop. Hope to do some pullin this weekend.

Sorry to hear about your problems, these def tanks, heaters and pumps don't seem to be perfected as of yet.

I don't care if it's trucks or computers, if you're going to have problems it will be right out of the box or shortly afterwards. That's why we have warranties and guarantees to work out the problems if any.

Now you know why I get new trucks before the warranty is up. Mine waited a year before it had a problem and it still was no fun.

Sigh. Ever since the EPA got involved, the Murphy Factor that requires dealer attention has increased by many orders of magnitude. At least there's computers now. I still remember a few times of not so much fun chasing down smog problems on some of my old, used, out of warranty cars and trucks. I got real familiar with Haynes and Motor manuals. Best car I ever had was my '68 'Vette. It had add on smog equipment when I got it, and all of it went into the dumpster. Imagine a 427 'Vette with NO vacuum advance and the headers tapped for air pump injectors! It ran like a piece of SH**!

True, but the only difference between work done under warranty, or not, is who pays. Either way your inconvenienced and a trip can be interrupted. Besides, you can get an awful lot of work done on a truck for the price differenc of a new truck.

It's just a difference in philosophy. Whatever floats your boat.

Even when under a warranty the consumer pays, it's built into the price we all pay for an item or vehicle at the time of purchase. If they could build this stuff perfect and never have a warranty issue the price of that purchase should be lower. I don't think that day will ever happen, some electronics and mechanical parts will always fail.

Rob, Rob, Rob,
You're trying to justify not getting that new truck. Come on pull the trigger, you know you want to.

And Rob, just think of the Cost of Ownership of the old truck. Gas isn't getting any cheaper, and repairs without a warranty....

You NEED the new truck Rob! :)

Glad to hear it, Rob. I've been worrying about whether Ford would have enough money to send me my retirement check next month.
But, now I feel better. Thanks, Buddy. :D
