Dropped trailer

Post by rpfan »

Well, its my turn in the barrel! Last Saturday I took the 5er to the shop for some minor repairs. Parked it, phone rang, next thing I know 3 customers come in. Its now 2 plus hrs later. Came back out, decided to back it up a bit. Stepped on the brake and it was on the truck #-o  . I don't remember unlocking the hitch but, I must have because my hitch requires 2 hands to unlock it. $7800 on the truck, $2300 on the trailer. Thank God for ins. I did find a body I like to replace the stock bed. Its made by Bradford. Nice hauler body, delivered to my shop for $3450 :thumbrt: . Their website is www.atp4you.net. Each body is built to your specs. I will order as soon as the check gets here. Just goes to show, mess with a routine and poop happens!
Merry Christmas to all!!!

Sorry Rich :( The only thing we can say to take the sting out of this "mishap".....is that "do do" happens to all of us sooner or later :(

Rich Sorry it happened! When it happens it always seems to be because we have been interrupted during our routines of what we normally do!

We all think it will never happen, a device called the Bed Saver is great protection for when you just totally screw up.

With Free Shipping and $15.00 off $232.95 is the Best Price found today.
I was going to build one but I needed a Christmas Present and thought about just what if I do screw up one day and drop the trailer, so I ordered one today.

Rich, I checked out that site and didn't see anything custom.

Bed Saver is a great idea except they don't fit every hitch. I should make one.

Unfortunately I know exactly what you are feeling, when were were in Cody Wy, this summer (after 10 hours of driving) I got out to unhook when my wife said it's not level, I asked her to pull the truck forward a bit so I could put some blocks under the left wheels and it was then that I heard that awful sound. I mean eyeryone in the campground looked, what I had done was release the pin and didn't even think about closing it back before asking her to pull forward. Fortunately no damage to the trailer but, it sure did some nasty damage to the bed rails.

John,
Take a look at the site I purchase from, they have a list of install instructions for all the models of 5th wheel hitches.
The good thing about these instructions listed on this site is that is the actual pictures and install instructions for the modal hitch you choose.

I will bet they make one for your hitch, I know that I could have make one but sometimes it nice to just do a bolt on when you are happy with the design.

First time I've seen Blue Ox. Looks like it will bolt on. I'm surprized they don't have a leg under the trap to help spread the load those bolts are going to see.
Thanks.
