2012 F350
Re: 2012 F350
If anyone is still interested this is the mileage I'm getting during our trip east:
Graham, WA - Pendleton, OR = 11.5
Pendleton, Or - Twin Falls, ID = 8.8 (strong head-winds)
Twin Falls, ID - Brigham City, UT = 11.7
Brigham City, UT - Rock Springs, WY = 11.8
I think I'm beginning to see a pattern.
It will be interesting to see what I get when we're in the flat part of the country.

I've always gotten better mileage west of the Mississippi. Not sure what's in the diesel out there but both trucks picked up almost 1 mpg.

Re: 2012 F350
Thats pretty good mileage Rob I don't think mine will do that well. I will be running pretty much the same route in August so we shall see, but my gross is 2 to 3 lbs heavier then yours anyway. Were off to Boardman if all goes well Monday then I will tow directly back to the storage shed so I will get an idea what Im getting then since I won't fill up until I get home.

LOL, probably about 3K lbs heavier and that's got to make a difference going up the hills.Mike Clay wrote:I will be running pretty much the same route in August so we shall see, but my gross is 2 to 3 lbs heavier then yours anyway.

Re: 2012 F350
Rob, that's pretty much what I get pulling at 60-65. Headwinds are the worse for gas mileage, climbing a hill there is always the other side going downhill, with headwinds it's constant, ain't no break from them.
Mike's right about having the extra fuel. Coming back from Salt Lake City with the 6.4 Bubba, I filled up north of Salt Lake City, and got all the way to Kramer Jct, around 50 miles east of Mojave before I chickened and filled up with a bit less then 1/4 tank left, and 73 miles from home. Good thing I did, I pumped in 82 gallons. 613 miles/82 gallons = 7.48 mpg = maybe, but I don't think so! Lots of headwinds from Cedar City, plus I was towing at 70 from North Salt Lake to Cedar City the first day.

I've always wondered Jeff, with everything else being equal, if the downhill portion doesn't more that make up for the uphill portion.Chief409 wrote:Rob, that's pretty much what I get pulling at 60-65. Re: 2012 F350
Probably does, except there is always a headwind on the downhill side! Watching the panel, anytime I'm on a downhill and in engine braking I see 30 mpg.

Re: 2012 F350
With my V10 when going downhill in tow/haul mode no fuel went to the engine and it just pumped air. I don't know if diesels work the same way.
