2012 F350

Post by dc471 »

I am seriously considering purchasing a new 2012 F350 SRW King Ranch with 6.7 liter. Just wondering if others have this tow vehicle and how it has performed for you. Our current 5er has a dry weight of 12,500lbs.

Hi Joel. there are quite a few of us that have the new Ford 6.7. Ours pulls like and dream with a great ride whether towing or not. Currently I'm getting 20+ on the highway and 13+ towing with amazing power. I'm sure you'll be very happy with the new F350.

BTW my previous truck was also a '05 F250

I have a 2011 F350 4x4 Crew Cab short bed with the 6.7. I really like the power and handling, the ride is very good towing and empty. I have the 3.55 rear gear and get 19 mpg empty ant 10.5 average towing. It has enough power that I would not hesitate to purchase one with the 3.31 rear gear. It should get a little better milage and would stiil have all of the power that you need.

When I say 13+ towing Randy that was the average over a 1000+ mile camping trip towing with some non--towing, 10-15%, included for the whole trip.

Not trying to start anything Rob I just would really like to know the true tow mileage on the new Fords. You can't post 13 plus mpg when your trailer was not on the truck that whole time. My guess on your long trip coming up will be in the 9's or 10's but let us know how it works out. I have gotten as good as 14 and as bad as 7 towing. Most of the time I get 9.8 for an average on long trips and if the Fords and Dodges are getting better then that then thats great news.

Well, we may be comparing apples and oranges. I tend to look at mileage towing the trailer over the whole trip not a snapshot. I went out to the truck and got my log and found that during the whole 1300 mile trip that I didn't have any towing only miles between fill-ups. What I can say is that over the whole trip towing the trailer I averaged 13.1 mpg and non-towing was a small percentage of that. So far with this truck I have not had the opportunity to drive, with the trailer hooked up, from fill-up to fill-up. May be that will change on this next trip.

Joel. I think you'll be very happy with the Ford. Mileage varies as everybody has different rigs they're towing. Also the terrain has an impact. There are no bad choices in the new trucks being offered today.

And to prove that Rob's truck gets the same mileage as us mere mortals, Rob is going to drag my rather plum Bird from Memphis to Goshen While I tow his lightweight Bird. :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :))

LOL your killing me
Towing = just that
empty = just that
Over all averages = both just thats
I guess the moral is I want to see true tow mileages not the guy in the campground with his 45 foot diesel pusher telling me he gets 15 mpg

Did not and do not want to start another truck war just want people to post the true facts so others can learn or should I say clarified facts.

I know some may not agree, but I think with the newer trucks mileage does not change that much between the shorter or longer trailers.
These newer trucks are not straining pulling short or long, I think it has a lot to with wind drag and incline pulling.
FACT IS,,,,, I get anything from 9.5 to 10.8 truly pulling the trailer and you guys are going to laugh but I struggle to get 15 not pulling.
I do admit that I have bad driving habits when not pulling, I like the feel of acceleration just driving around but still on a 45 mile 72-75 mph trip I am not much over 15.

I went on the Ford site and see many others with the 2011 -2012 (6.7) trucks are getting the same results as WVcampers wrote with the 3.55 rear gears and get 19 mpg empty and 10.5 average while towing.
I think that is a good believable number and thanks for posting the Facts to help others make a good choice no matter what brand truck it is.

I said it before Rob must have Fords secret one of a kind test engine that got out the factory by accident, I would be willing to bet Ford would pay to get that 13 + mpg towing engine bank under lock and key.

With my DRW, 2012 F350, 5700 miles, 1900 miles or so towing, my OVERALL mpg from new is 13.9 mpg. Towing is around 12 mpg, depending on wind, hills, etc., but 12 mpg is the average. Empty I've been using the cruise control set either at 65 or 70 mph. Towing, I set the cruise control at 65. If I didn't use the cruise control so much, I'm sure I would get at least one more mpg.

All of this comes from the truck's computer, and I've found the computer readout is accurate after comparing fuel receipts, what the computer says's is the total fuel used and mpg.

But, at $4.37 a gallon, when you pump in 57 gallons, it is most assuredly "Sticker Shock". At least diesel is still cheaper then AV gas. 100LL for aircraft is hovering at just under $6 a gallon.
