Transmission Cooler

Post by Traveler II »

Most of our travels are in the winter. I see that my transmission temperature on the warm days we had a week ago would reach 190 degrees on some grades, coming from California east. I was wondering what would happen during hot summer days? Is the stock transmission cooler good enough for the summer or have some you either replaced it or added a secondary one?

Hi,

From what I understand, the fluid runs thru the the radiator so it will reflect the temperature of the engine. The fluid will be routed thru the tranny cooler then thru the radiaor then back to the transmission. The newer trany coolers have thermostats in them so they bypass when the fluid is cold.

Just my $0.02 woth.
