I just finished replacing the (2 week old) oil cooler. I'm glad I bought Ford parts as they covered the repairs. Just had to wait for parts from them. 3 gallons of simple green and about 300 gallons of water run thru the engine to get all the oil out. A long day. I think it will be okay now. We'll see when I put a load on it. I really like my truck but, it is an engineering nightmare as far working on it. The engineers who put this together should be made to work on it!!

Germans. Navistar used German designs for the 6.0 and 6.4 diesels. A couple of West Coast Railroads bought some German diesel locomotives in the 1960's. Beautiful machines that couldn't handle the stress of American railroading. And from what I heard, a PIA to work on. Retired and scrapped in less then 10 years. Locomotives normally average 30+ years of service.

Sorry to hear about those failed parts Rich, I hope mine doesn't fail as it too is a Ford part. Did the cooler seperate, was it visible whenever you removed it? It looks like they have changed the design from whenever they were new in 2006, my old one had numerous oil ports in the top of the cooler where it bolts to the filter plate and the new one has a solid top.

Latest update!!... I dropped my truck off at my dealer just to go over everything I did to it. Went and picked it up, drove it back to my shop. Temp started to rise again. I checked the degas bottle and AGAIN it had oil in it...alot. I checked the oil and it was FULL and CLEAN. Guess where it is coming from?? :-? ...Ready... The brand new radiator is bad :-o . It is crossing fluid into the transmission. Pulled the stick and it was full just like the bottle. So now I will get a new rad and the company I got it from is PAYING to have it towed and flushed, new filters. Or a trans rebuild if needed . Can you >#@%^ing believe it?? X( The radiator?! Really??? I can't take it much longer... :ymsigh:

So here is what I found; In the bottom of the radiator is the cooling tube for the trans. One of the O rings is not there. The fiiting on the line has one and the cooler on the inside has one. The one on the inside is missing letting the fluids X contaminate. Now tomorrow its off to have the trans flushed.

Because my luck runs down hill lately, I decieded to take the RV for a test pull today rathe than wait for our trip tomorrow. Towed abot 25 mile up hill, back roads where I'm on and off the pedal. Temps on coolant and trans stayed normal. Fluids all good. Trans shifts good. We are outa here in the morning!

310 miles to Ocean City Md, NO problems! Truck runs great with the head gasket job done,
now that I have towed it for some miles. It now gets about 2 MPG towing than befor the gasket job. All I can say now is...WHEW!!! :d
