Air Bags

Post by Bill, Sharon & Toby »

I will be towing a 3450RL Bird, unloaded wt is 13234, hitch wt is 2270. I have a Ford 2011 F350 Diesel, SRW, 4X4 short bed. I have been told I may need rear air bags. Any suggestions or experience as to what brand, part number, etc I should ask for?

Put the trailer on and see probably get beat up by the Ford boys but all the people I have talked to on this trip need or have them on their new Fords.

I had them put on my Dodge about a month ago. Do not know the brand, But made all the difference in the world on the ride and handling. Wish I had done it a long time ago.

John, John, John you surprise me. :d

My pin weight is right at 2400#. And that doesn't include all the other stuff I carry in the bed of the truck when we go camping.

Time to get the popcorn out for this explaination. I know Dennis has at least 6 - huge 6v batteries in the storage area and Donna leaves nothing at home. Where's the popcorn smiley???

Don't know Donna. There's a weigh station about half a mile from us that I use. I weight the rear axle with the trailer (5900#) then without (3460#). I suppose there's always a possibility that the scale is wrong.
Plus I'm at about 20% of the trailer weight on the hitch which I believe is the recommended weight.

Talking with Den about the BIG difference, he says Maybe perhaps the difference is that we always run with water in fresh tank, lots of canned goods and wine and jugs of water in the 'pantries' under benches, and the spare tire and heavier cover on the back.....

LOL, he may be on to something as I don't carry much water and have no under-bench storage with our table and chairs.
