WHAT? Am I to believe that GM doesn't use the same transmission that's in an M1 tank?

Tell your transmission guy he does not know what he is talking about !!!!
Like I said in my post GM does not even work on the Allison transmissions when a problems develops, Gm sends you to a Allison facility. I know this for fact from my GMC Topkick, the harness came unplugged going to transmission and it was very hard to find because it did not make a good connection all the time.
Do you really think that some fly by night transmission repair shop guy could convince me to change my torque convertor or any other major part in a $65,000 truck to a after market upgrade convertor.
Only those old time 70's mechanics guys still think they still can work on anything when they can't even afford the test equipment or training to fix these new cars and trucks.
I would suggest telling your guy he can get rich if he has engineering talents to improve the Allison transmissions.

could be the older D/A combos. I have a neighbor who works for Gm service and he forwarded this to me......I would still have one in my truck if I could have ordered it that way.

Be mad at the right persons!

For those of you with the no go condition, there are update torque converter relief valve springs available to your gm dealer in a kit. Any dealer can do a bulletin search and find the related bulletin on this condition. The bulletin contains the part numbers and instructions. This condition will be most often found in 01's... some 02's. If you own an 01 you especially should check the torque converter bolts, probably too late at this point in time. They were often loose causing the converter to move around and damage the fron seal and pump. The PRNDL switch on the side of the transmission is usually responsible for the PRNDL display indicating the wrong gear or no gear at all. As for the software updates. 01 and 02 have updates from original to help with the prime loss problem as well as busy shifting, and yes the PCM and TCM should be updated. Hope this helps. As for my title on this subject, NEITHER DEALERS NOR THEIR TECHNICIANS DESIGNED OR BUILT THESE TRUCKS!!!!! WANT TO BE MAD CALL THE 1-800 NUMBER IN YOUR OWNERS MANUAL AND LET THE CORRECT PERSONS HEAR YOU CRYING.

Bill, I am sorry to hear you had transmission trouble on the way home from Branson. You already know that my u-bolts that hold the axle housing to the spring base plate came loose 1 week after I got home from Branson. Do you think both of us had problems due to who we sat at the table with at Lambert's in Ozark, MO. I have not read about him having any trouble at all on the way home? Just joking.

I am sure that looking at the price of a new truck could cause many of us to have PTSD if we are not careful? I think I may have told you that I had to have all 8 of my injectors replaced on a trip out west in 2010 so I cannot trade my truck in on a new one or I would lose $4,000.00. However, even though we do not know what the cost of the next trip will be, it is still better to go while we can than to worry about what might happen if we do go right!

I bit the bullet this week and joined the Ford owners in this Club, I replaced the Ram with a 2012 Ford, F350 DRW 2 wheel drive, 8' bed. I had to go to a DRW to get 3.73 axles as the only ratio the offer with the diesel in the single wheel 2 wheel drive is the 3.31. The truck certainly rode rougher than the Dodge for the first couple hundred miles then started smooth out. The extra wheels are going to take some getting used to, fortunately it's not that much longer than the MegaCab was.

And another happy new truck owner :d Congratulations...and post some pix when you can. We are hoping our will make it another year or so. But with all the stories here lately, I sure won't count on it! Just put a few thousands into our bird fixing this, that and another (brakes, suspension, frame, axles, remove and reseal rear window, replace shower skylight, #:-s ) so no monies for a new truck now!

Congrats on the new rig Bill! Soon the dually wheels will be second nature. Another nice thing, with duals I'm not as concerned about "Rapid Loss of Tire Air Pressure" on the rear with the 'Bird on the hitch. I've had 4 of those, the last one a week ago on a rental vehicle, which makes 2 rear blowouts in a 60 day period at work. Thankfully none towing. If I NEVER have another one, it's one day too soon!

'Sides, even mounted pickup truck tires are HEAVY!
