2008 chev 3500 DRW Tires

Post by Jash »

I have tried to select Michlin tire for my truck. The truck came with General LT 225/75R17. The Michilin LTZ MS dont come in that size. I was told that going to the larger Michlin tire will cause clearance issues between the dual wheels. They said a spacer could be added. Has anyone replaced their tire on the 2008 chev 3500 DRW, and have you seen this issue.

Also recommendations would be great.

That seems like a strange size for a DRW 3500. At 2755 pound max rating that is very limiting on the front axle. Sure you have the right size?

John, are those the orginal tires that came on your truck. What size did the truck come with?

I have the same size tires as Travelers on my Dodge DRW and have not had any problems The original tires were General and then Hankook which I was very happy with but when I was replacing tires before the Branson Trip the Hankook were a 3 week back order in that size so I went back to General.
That must have been a bad time to get that size tires because I could not get Hankook, Michelins LTX or Bridgestone Duravis from American Tire or Costco without special order.

The 225/75/R17 are the original tires that came on the truck, They are General Grabber tires. It appears that on the 2010 they increased the size of the tire. Even General doesnt make that size anymore.

John, I bet you can go with the 235/80/17s and be fine. they will be just a touch taller and of course the 10mm wider. Obsolete tire sizes make you have to adjust and do the best you can. Good luck on you selection. See Chris's post on tires.

Don, next time go straight to a Bridgestone/Firestone dealer as most American Tire stores just buy from a local Bridgestone dealer
