Total Loss

Post by mike & linda »

Just had a large pine tree fall accross the front of the unit. We believe it will be totalled. My question today is about pin weight /carry capacity of our 2006 f250 td. We have found a 2013 cardinal 3030rs that we really like, however the pin weight is stated to be 2550 lbs. I believe this will be 200 to 300 lbs under our max cargo capacity of 6100 lbs rear axle rating. Has anyone had any experience with this type of pin weight?

Mike .........Sory for your Loss, of your Cardinal........ :( ............But, hopefully you can get a newer one.

Question for you....What is your GVW...(On your vin tag), do you know the Gear ratio???.............Is it a Crew cab, 4X4, etc.......These things factor in . I do have a "Ford Towing Guide" for 2008.....so , with some more info....should be able to give a good answer.

I am going to guess, at this point ...you have a "Super Cab", and base my answer on this ,,,,It looks like you can tow...15,900 lbs trailer, if 4x2, 15,400 4x4,

I believe , at this point you will have enough truck...but having this info ...will help!!!

High Mark
Thanks for getting back so fast. We have a crew cab with the 3:73 . I believe the truck gvwr is 9800 lbs. Not sure if that is the actual weight of the truck though. I know it's rated to tow a 5th wheel up to 15900 lbs. However, the more I read, the more it seems to come down to the GAWR of 6100 lbs. The drive axel wieght with the 30sb camper in tow was 5180 lbs. The pin weight was stated on someones site as 1950 lbs. If that is true, then A difference of 300 lbs is all we have. thats putting it pretty close. Not sure I'm looking at this the right way though.

Mike...........If I read it the correct way also...It does sound a little close. :-B ..but , I do know of people who are WAY over............. ........not what I would want..
Do you have airbags on the rear, have you thought about "RideRite" type air springs.??.Course I am facing a dilema..............my New to me truck, has Firestone Ride Rite air bags, BUT, I am puting the B&W turnover ball//Companion hitch on.....it will not work with the Turnover sysem....So, I am working on a fix.

Wow, sorry for the loss

That 3030 is a nice model. Hopefully Tom Allen will see this, he has a 3030 and uses a Ford 3/4 ton similar to yours and has pulled it quite a few miles. I'm sure he can let you know how the truck handles that size camper.

Good luck with finding that new camper!

Sorry to hear of your loss.
I had a '05 srw 4x4 crew cab diesel and towed the 3150. Pin weight on my rig was 2400#. I had installed air bags on the truck.

The thing about Fords is that the only difference between a 250 and a SRW 350 is the springs. The tires are what limits the payload capacity and the rear axel capacity. The brakes are the same too.

Mike,
Hopefully the insurance company takes care of you, your F250 truck should have no problems with the added pin weight they have added pin weight to all the newer model years 2010 and up.
Like you said you can add a little more fresh water to remove some pin weight, if you find the truck rides a little lower just add some Firestone Air Load Levers.

I would have no worries pulling added pin weight on the 3030.

My 250 pulls the 3030 and my ATV (double tow) with no problem, I did add super over load springs to the truck to handle the extra pin weight. Have not noticed any difference when towing my 2008 30TS.
