Transfer Flow Midship Replacement Tank

Post by Flintstones »

I just had a Transfer Flow 50 gallon mid ship replacement tank installed on my 2011 Ford F-350. Ipswich Ford was able to recalibrate the truck to recognize the new 50 gallon tank. Wicked cool seeing the miles to empty read 783!

I have the in bed Transfer flow tank 50 gallon plus the 36 the truck carries. Its nice being able to go over 800 miles towing if need and pass those rip off stations.

I would not do that to a 6.7 while still under warranty less you have a letter from the Ford Company approving it! Which I doubt they would give to you! I failed CP4.2 injection pump that is not cover by warranty is about 10-12K, and Ford has been playing hard ball and blaming the users and denying warranty coverage, while GM with the same pump is quietly taking care of them.

That's a popular option with a lot of the 6.7 guys. I'm VERY pleased with range I have with the factory tank Bill. I just can't justify the cost in my case and way I travel. :d

I sure enjoyed my larger tank on my Dodge and as soon as I get a few things taken care of I'm going to add the tool box/ transfer tank combo to my new truck. I like being able to stock up at lower prices when I can.

Got my in-bed TransferFlo Tank/toolbox installed yesterday. Now to take it to my local Ford dealer to get everything calibrated. Then to Walmart for $3.43 fuel.

Bill I am confused, did you get the Trax-II system or the Max-flo. Why does the dealer need to calibrate it? With the trax II the coding is in the computer that comes with the tank and the installer normally does it.

I got the Trax-II. I was told i needed to get it calibrated. I've got to go by the shop on Monday as I didn't find the keys to the tool box. I'll ask about the calibration. Do you fill your vehicle tank completely then fill the aux tank?

Always fill your truck tank up first. The pump in the transfer flow won't keep up if you try to run on it. Sometimes if I just want to short fill somewhere that the price is high I fill my truck tank only. Once it comes down to a certain point depending where the tf tank is it will start pumping again. If you go into have the dealer calabrate it make sure both tanks are full.

The place that installed mine only put a few gallons in and it was off. I called tf while we were at the rally in Albq and they walked me through the calebration. Seems to be working good now.

I didnt do the Transfer Flow but instead I had the Titan 50 Gal tank installed to replace my OEM tank that was only 26 Gal. With a short bed I didn't want to lose the space with a mid-ships tank. Boy is it nice to be able to go 1000 miles without the Cardinal and not have to worry about the next truck stop 175-200 miles than could handle the Cardinal when I pull it. Great investment so far.
BTW, the stinking Ford Dealer charged me $40 to recalibrate the gauge... and that is after I had to print out the directions on how to do it and assure him it was doable. Took about 20-25 minutes to do the job. I did ask about the warranty issues and the dealer said there shouldn't be any issues.

Mike, the recalibration is for the "miles to empty" on the instrument panel. The Trax-ll is calibrated to recognize the fuel levels in the tanks and seems to be spot on now that i've filled both tanks.
Keith, I expect that I'll be charged also as this is not a warranty issue.

Ok, I did not have either truck done for miles to empty. I will see if mine is showing the right amount on this trip. On the way home from Albq I thought it was still showing about 5 gallons off but somewhere along the line I was missing the amount I thought it would take to fill and got off. Only have run 20 gallons through it since we got home from the balloon fiesta but it was right on.

IMO, the MTE indicator is worthless information as it's trying to base future mileage on past mileage and there are way to many variables.
