Truck toolbox clearance for cardinal 3450?

Post by jnmoor00 »

I would like to purchase a real nice toolbox. Here's the problem I am deployed currently so I am not sure what I should and should not do regarding purchase due to clearance issues. A friend told me to look at low profile tanks for my 3500 mega cab but don't folks pull using transfer flow tanks etc? I looked at the alumiknox brand. Any suggestions what to get?

Some box makers have low profile boxes that do not raise above the bed rails. You anchor to the floor of the truck bed, and the lids are flush with the rails. It does eat up space normally under a rail mount box. I do not have a source now days, but you might do a search. They may refer to them as storage chests.

It is really to bad that Creative Industries went out of business. I have had their Truck Trunk box for two trucks and many years. It hangs from the bed rails and has about 3-4 inch between the bottom and the bed floor. You can still slide in sheets of plywood etc under it. The lid slides left or right for access and it is only a inch and a half or so above the bed rails. It came in many different sizes. I also have their V-Box. If you can find a used one on Craig's List, jump on it. "Truck Trunk" was the product name.

I've got a Transfer Flow combo 60 gal. tank with toolbox. It sits just below the bed rail. Our truck is a 2008 Chevy D/A, DW, CC, B&W Companion. Works great for us. Ordered my Transfer Flow from Northern Tools Cataloge.

The Mega cab Dodge has a really short bed. Make sure that you have enough room for the box. I am sure that you are using a slider hitch that take even more room.

Shoot I'm sitting here wondering if I will be able to keep my back flip tonneau cover the way the caps are on the new trailers.

Another option you have for your Megacab is to replace the stock fuel tank with a larger one. I installed a Titan 52 gallon replacement tank on my 2006 Megacab, and it worked great. Since my truck was 2 wheel drive thus set lower I did have some issues with ground clearance, if yours is 4wd the you should have no problem. Transferflow also makes a 56 gallon replacement tank that fits up to at least 2012 Megacabs. You can then get the low profile tool box for the bed.

My truck is a long bed and I am wondering if my box is going to work also. I haven't had time to check it out yet. It's a deep box and bolts to the bed rails. It sits fairly high. I noticed when I was backing in to my site that the front cap looked close, but of course I am a newbie and it was a little intimadating the first trip. I am going to check it out this week and see if all will clear.

I have a sit in the bed box, it mounts to the floor and back of the bed.
