I have the edge insight on mine and you can also clear trouble codes.

I had my truck serviced Tuesday and mentioned this to the service writer, he immediately knew what the problem was as he's seen several cases of it. It seems these sensors can be affected by the amount of heat generated by towing done in heavy pulling situations. carrying one spare is not really an answer, unless you have a way to test to determine which of the 3 is bad. Hopefully they will improve the sensors so the failure rate goes down. Glad you're back up and running Keith.

Bill, I took the truck in last Friday to get the oil changed (I negotiated 3 years of oil changes with the truck). I mentioned to the head of truck service at Phil Long Ford in Colorado Springs that the EGT #3 had failed and left me stranded outside Loveland He said he had never seen an EGT failure come into the shop for repair/replace. (I told him to check his recalls on EGT for F350s that are ambulance vehicles and to check the Ford Diesel web sites). Let's face it, Ford is playing with the safety (and loyalty) of its diesel truck owners when it knows that problem exists.
I am going to buy one of the code readers for about $50 that will tell me which sensor failed, then carry an extra EGT. I am not the best mechanic but after the exhaust cools I can crawl under the truck and replace the EGT (supposed to be fairly easy to do). I will say that if this happens again in the next 3-4 years, I will go back to Dodge!

I bought one of these from Amazon for $24.

And bought the Torque Pro to run on my tablet.

Gives tons of information and if you have internet access give you very detailed information regarding any codes along with ability to reset the code. You can also watch the reading in real time as you drive down the highway.

Thanks Rob. I will get both of these tonight. Cant beat the price of either the code scanner or the app.

I agree Keith, however, I know just enough to be dangerous, so I'll just call the Good Sam ERS folks and let them tow me to the nearest Ford dealer.

Don't call them very often, they are telling me they no longer want me as a customer because I used them too often. I called and asked them if there was a limit to the number of times I could use them and they said no. I also asked if they informed their members the number of times it could be used and they also said no. The customer service rep I talked to said he would send me a form to fill out to explain my use of the services they provided and maybe my renewal would be reconsidered. I received a reimbursement form in the mail as if I had told him I had paid for a service that I thought should have been covered. I don't think he even was listening when I called.

I will give that a try Chris. I haven't been able to get logged on because it doesn't recognize me as a member, but when I check with the forgot password it sends me the username and password I am putting in to log on. I have sent an email to the forum webmaster. Thanks for the link.
