2006 F250 PSD

Post by mike & linda »

Can anyone tell me the best wired code reader for my truck? My check engine light stays on all the time. Ford always says it's the turbo sticking due to rust? because I don't drive it enough. $600 to clean. I'm a ford guy, but, beginning to think Dodge may have been a better choice for a diesel. I would like to purchase one that would tell me the problem not a code if possible. Also I would like to be able to monitor and to reset codes with it while driving. Thanks for any recommendations

I can't give you the answer your looking for, but I can refer you to a great forum called Ford Truck Enthusiasts.

http://www.fordtrucks.com

There is a 6.0 forum that will have your answers..This has been a great resource for me with diagnostic and repair to my 7.3l

I use an Edge Insight to monitor my engine, transmission and cooling temps in addition to turbo boost and EGT temp. It also reads and clears codes but it doesn't tell you what they are. The one I got is http://www.edgeproducts.com/product.php?pk=145&pvk=405

Mike,
I think you looking for a lot out the code reader devise, even resetting the active code will not keep it off if the fault remains active.
I am not sure but I think have not seen the over the counter units display the problem code in words of the problem like the dealer units.

This is what I have Mike:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... owl.torque

Along with this:

http://www.amazon.com/BAFX-Products-Blu ... B005NLQAHS

Along with the error code if you have Inet access it will give more detailed information on the code.

Thanks guys. I could not find one that would tell me the actual problem either. I will probably go with the wifi model on amazon with the android app. I think my truck has some inherent problems that will need to be addressed. The turbo sticking is due the fact that I only use it to pull the 5th wheel. 06 with 50k miles, guess I need to drive it more. Thanks for the help

Mike, I would go with the Edge Insight. I bought one for my 2006 and still use it for my 2012. They are a great tool and will allow you to diagnose problems.
