Transfer Flo

Post by jacknife »

DW and I just spent last nite and tonite at the Almond Tree RV park . It is a really nice small park very clean and well maintained. only $35 per nite with Good Sam card or AAA . Only 5 miles from Trans flow. Had a 50 gal in bed tank installed . Very clean quality work. nice to see some american manufacturing. I told the DW that's it! I am not spending anymore money. it's bad enough you make me buy a new truck then a aux tank next you will be whining for a Tonneau cover. :(( :(( Off to Jackson tomorrow ,can't wait . :d

LUCKY YOU!! We have a big after market fuel tank too, and you can be much more picky and choosy where to buy fuel - finding the least expensive fuel farther down the road...

Sure hoping to meet you folks at one of these Rallies soon! Donna and Dennis

I just scheduled an appointment with Transfer Flow this p.m. to have a 50 gal black tank installed in July. I am sitting on the fence whether to get the black or the aluminum diamond plate tank? Which did you get & can you post a photo?

For those of us with short beds, there is a Transfer Flow or Titan aux tank that replaces the existing small tank (on a Ford the OEM is only 26 gallons) with a 50 gallon tank. Not quite what an" in the bed "aux tank provides but I have my entire 6.5 ft bed available.
We really enjoy having twice the miles / tank to tow with. Best investment other than the tonneau cover I have made on the truck.

UT Cardinal: not sure if you were talking to me, but ours is a Diamond plate Transfer Flo and holds 40 gallons.. Sure does make a difference when you are traveling a distance - Don't have to stop as often to fuel up, and you can be choosier as to higher or lower cost fuel! Gassbuddy.com is a good app to put on your phone or iPad to see fuel prices while on the road!!!!

Double D's: Thanks, I can't decide if the additional $600 bucks is worth the diamond plate? Does the black powder coating on the other tank oxidize and look bad over time?

I have a question for you guys with the auxiliary tanks - when you are not towing are you adding fuel to the auxiliary tank to keep the fuel fresh or are you only fueling the auxiliary tank when you are towing? Do you need to put in a "biocide" into the auxiliary tank if you are not using it?

UT: we bought our Chevy from Bruce (campswithcritters) and the aux tank was already in there.. Den says that if the powder coat one gets a chip in the coating, it is pretty hard to fill that chip and have it re-powdered...

As for the 'biocide', he says that he has never used it and he has never had a problem with fuel going bad..

We had a RDS 51 gallon w/tool box installed in Alabama before we departed for home this spring. Our 2013 F-350 SB was new and we had never pulled our new to us 95 37RL. The RDS w/ gravity flow worked flawlessly during the 1200 mile trip home. The truck computer would periodically update the miles to empty based on the calculated fuel economy. When the RDS tank was empty, the trucks fuel gauge would start to drop and we knew it was time to refuel. With only 26 gallons available without the aux tank the trip would have been a constant problem looking for a place to refuel. With 77 gallons of fuel available and an average mileage of 11.7 mpg we could cruse for several days before have to look for fuel.

Now at home I only fill the aux tank when I find cheap fuel. I also like the fact that my bed cover fits over the tank/toolbox when I am not hooked up to the "Bird". The storage area is only 9" deep but enough space for my Viair compressor, bottle jack and some tools.

I did look at the Transfer Flo tanks, but could not justify the additional cost over the RDS. Haven't found a downside to my selection.

Have a good day.

UTCardinal,
If you're concerned about scratches in the black powdercoat, then I would recommend you opt for one of the spray in bed liner coated tanks. T black powdercoat will scratch. Unless you have other items in the shiny chrome/aluminum diamond plate on you truck I think the aluminum is a waste of money, the actual tank is still a steel tank within the aluminum box. I intended to have a spray in bed liner done to my truck before I bought my toolbox/tank, but finances being what they are I just left my rubber bed mat in and had the tank installed after I cut the mat to clear the tank. Because I haul my wife's handicap scooter in my truck bed I added some rubber bumper trim to the toolbox/tank to protect it, I also bought 2 magnetic tool holder strips from Harbor Freight which I screwed to the left over bed mat material and use it to protect the tank when I haul material in the truck bed.

I got the black tank with the $150 bed spray option. Well worth it if you have a sprayed in bed liner ,blends right in with the bed of the truck so you really don't even notice it. Free ice cream and a factory tour if you ask. :thumbrt:
