I wonder if I added another leaf to my rear springs if that would be enough.
What does that do for your tires? Which are the weakest link! What year is your truck? Chris

Here are ratings for the 2012 HD trucks 2500 and 3500.
Match up you truck to the rating, I am not saying you cannot use your truck but many trucks on the road are overload and you will be over the ratings after the trailer is loaded and ready for travel.
Many do it and sleep well, I on the other hand worry myself sick about things like that, use it for a while and do your best to upgrade to a 3500HD.
As Mike said these thing get heavy fast and the new units get heavy on the pin very easy.

Thank you for your effort. I hate to trade so soon, but I may have to, because I do want to be safe.

You can always put water in fresh water tank to take some weight off the pin

We did the same thing. Had a smaller 5th wheel and a Chevy 2500HD. Decided to trade for a 2014 3850RL. That was the most unnerving trip we ever made. Traded for a Ram 3500 dually and it sure does make it better. One of the biggest problems was the weight on rear tires of the truck. I also added air bags but didn't help. You will need a dually to pull a 3850RL. Also I have been driving tractor trailers for years so I know a little about weights.

Yes indeed, the pin weight on the truck is just to heavy otherwise.

My 3025 has a pin weight of 2000lbs according to the spec sheet. After loading essentials it went way up. My pickup weighs 7000lbs unhooked, 10600lbs hooked to the 5er. This is only a 34ft fifth wheel with a 14,000lb rating. Our old 5er had a 2000lb pin weight as well and it was a 31ft Presidential. I was 800lbs over GVW then now I am 1800lbs over GVW. This figures out to approximately a 3400 t0 3600 pin weight with a much smaller 5er than the 3850. FYI,I am looking into getting a 3500 sometime in the near future.

After reading all of your responses, and pulling our new 3850RL for about 175 miles with our 2500 and thinking about the safety factor. I bit the bullet and traded for a Denali 3500 DRW. I hope our trip to Florida will be a lot more relaxing. thank you all for your knowledge on the subject. :) :)

I hope this worked . I only have a picture of my truck because my trailer is 180 miles away. I will show it at a latter date.

That is one nice looking truck. I keep trying to talk Laurie into letting upgrade to a dually but all I get is a big NO.

Oh, well some day I'll get there :d.
