Went "All In" On New Tow Vehicle

Post by trouble1263 »

Hey All ,

Been a while since I posted, We recently upgraded from this....
Image

To This...
Image

Old truck was an 01 F250, 7.3 L PSD

New Rig is a '14 Ram 3500 SRW with Aisin Transmission and Cummins 6.7 L

Breaking in was painful this last weekend as the owners manual said not to exceed 50 MPH for the first 500 miles of Heavy Towing....Was getting a lot of stare downs from people passing on the interstate...Oh well, it's not their $55 K Truck..

Unloaded ,this truck seems to be searching for gears a lot between 40 and 50 mph..I think I just need to adjust my driving a little..

Loaded with our 12,000 LB 29 LX, I am very impressed with the tow/haul and exhaust brake performance along with the Aisin..Very pleasant towing this rig..

I was disappointed that in a SRW you can only get 3.42 rear end..I think for my application 3.73's would be better..I did not want a dually as I use this truck as my daily driver/grocery getter as well.

I did order the factory Fifth Wheel /Goose neck Prep that allows for a flat floor in the bed when towing season is over. This required an adapter that I got from etrailer..Here's what it looks like..

Sorry for the dark pics..If anyone want more info on this , just ask

Very nice! I have been curious about the Aisin transmission so now we have someone to get information about it. What is the interior up front bench or bucket seats?

Very nice Duane! I don't think you'll have any issues with the gearing with all that power up front. :thumbrt:

Great looking truck! Ive been looking at getting a new Ram truck myself just cant get the wife convinced yet. :)) Don't worry about the higher gearing. The Aisin tranny gearing makes up for it. Ram was looking at better fuel mileage as well. Go to the TDR website ( turbo diesel register ) This a website for Dodge Cummins pickup owners and there is a lot of useful information.
