Congrats on your new Ram . Cummins engines require no break in . I have had 6- 15 liter engines and 2 -5.9s. Just get in and drive. They recommend that you tow as much as possible because the parts polish in quicker and your mileage will go up. The six spd transmisson will drag you over those hills quicker then you will believe. A good forum to go on is Turbo Diesel Register. All Cummins all Dodge and Ram all the time. Good info.
Yes they use def be happy about that . It has allowed the engine makers to put out more powerful engines that run cooler. LessEgr fewer regens and you never have too take it in to get the dpf cleaned out. Buy it at truck stops if you can the have it in bulk at the pump and it is about half the cost of buying it in a container. You can get your filters at a good price on line at Genos garage.Hope that helps .
DEF does have the value of making engines run cooler and probably contributes to the better mileage and lower emissions the new trucks get. My problem with DEF is two foldL
1. Cost...it seems difficult to find it at truck stops with a nozzle that will fit the 2012 Ford, hence I end up pooring it in from a container that ends up smelling as I spill/dribble it.
2. When my EGT failed last February, the first thing the Ford dealer said was the cause was probably either the frozen diesel fuel or frozen DEF. When the dealer raises that as a problem, I wonder what is the risk of DEF in cold/freezing weather.

Keith, are you using the Ford filling tube on the container? I have only used the Ford tube and have never spilled a drop. Also, the truck stop DEF nozzles fit my 2011 and I can't imagine there is any difference.
Stopped at the dealer on the way home from work. They have located another truck. Seems they had the idea that I wanted only one particular color. Straightened that out real quick. Will find out Friday when they expect the truck. Because of Sandys work schedule we wont be able to take delivery until next Thursday regardless. FYI, I am a TDR member and have owned Cummins rigs for over 15 years. The breakin Ram recommends is to make sure the rear end gears set in correctly. The 2013 owners manual doesn't mention breakin for towing but the 2014 manual is quite clear about this procedure. The truck color is maximum steel two tone and has the black leather trim interior. I was hoping to have pics (and the truck) by now. Guess its a good thing I have lots of patience.
Very nice Mike! Im sure you did not have to crawl under this one on the way home.

No Mike. Didn't have to with this one. I forgot all about that. I still have the wheel to wheel running boards coming along with a chrome bug shield, stainless sill plates , mud flaps and vent shades for the door glass. Told the dealer that I wasn't going to spend more money to add accessories so they were able do some negotiating. They also have the fifth wheel adaptor plate which I will pick up today. Really enjoy the quiet ride. Had the Alpine speakers cranked up listening Led Zeppelin. Not sure where they traded the truck from since it already has 500 miles on it.
