That is close to what I figured. A Ford dealer would have been much more I'm sure, without your custom features.

yeah I think they are over 100 /hr and the charge list on the parts. i think they would not have fixed / rebuilt it they would have made you get a long block or complete engine at 8,000-14,000 + labor and it would still have the pistons with the lip issue.

Dave I am seeking advice. I have a 2008 Dodge 6.7 that has 70,000 miles on it. I am wanting to do a EGR and EGR cooler and DPF delete from the Catalyst back and keep the resonator/ muffler. I have mechanical experience but not any diesel experience. I want to do the EGR and EGR cooler delete myself and have the DPF delete done by somebody else because I don't believe I can get the muffler separated from the exhaust and the tail pipe is welded on.
My question is this. Can I do the EGR and cooler delete without doing the DPF at the same time? I am probably going with a Smarty tuner. I am asking because I don't want to do the engine deletes and then not be able to get it started to drive to whoever I find to do the exhaust. I also don't want to damage the engine. Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

You can do the deletes and install the tuner and still take it to a place as long as the tuner is installed it wont look for the DPF sensors. My 07 6.7 ram the DPF came off prety easy it was not welded just clamped into the resonator, Hmm i wonder if i still have the pipe i made for that i will have to look.

Make sure you can get the correct Smarty to handle the deletes, as I do not believe they are sold in the US anymore! Feds are really cracking down on this. Edge got a large fine along with others. There is a reason why the Smarty developer lives in Italy! Contact Bob Wagner on TDR site before you jump in the deep end! Much sure you do not live in an area that smogs and checks for smog stuff being installed on diesels. Chris

Thanks Dave for the advice. I was concerned that doing the engine deletes and programming with the Smarty Jr. ME without removing the DPF would cause to much back pressure and cause head gasket problems. The complete delete package is sold on E bay but it says that the DPF needs to be off when programming with the Smarty Jr. ME so that you have a free flowing exhaust and so it will not soot up the DPF. I only plan on doing the engine deletes and driving straight to the place to have the DPF removed. I believe the tuner comes loaded, but if not I would appreciate your help. Thanks again.
Chris I have also read that Edge had been stopped from selling these delete kits and very hefty fines were given. They are still showing them for sell on E bay and Amazon and other places like Rolling Smoke Diesel and other sites, so I hope they are legitimate. I would sure hate to get ripped off at the tune of about 1100 dollars for the kit I am considering buying.

Or a 10k fine for yourself or the guy that removed DPF. If he is smart he would not touch it with a 10 foot pole. My stepson is VP and regional manager in the wholesale exhaust business and says the feds are serious about this. The will no long sell delete pipes. Do you homework! A left over 2014 might be a better route.

Chris I don't see myself buying a 2014 model in the near future with my 2008 having only 70,000 miles on it. I believe the fine would be cheaper than buying the new truck or buying a new engine and having it installed. If I don't get this bling off my truck it is going to destroy it causing me to have to buy a engine. The turbo can't take much more of this choking down. I don't live in a state that checks emissions and heck there are enough rednecks here in Ky that wouldn't think twice about removing a DPF. They drive them around here with stacks sticking out of the beds and smoke rolling.

Mike if you are having problems with the DPF and only have 70K mile it should be covered under warranty. Sure beats the cost of those kits and/or the fine.

Mike the emisions system has a different type of warranty, might be worth checking. I was in a shop earlier this week and they had a sign prominately displayed about the federal regs about exhaust modifications. I know performance problems are not fun, I had a Banks air intake system and exhaust on my Dodge, but from what I've read I'm not going to mess with this Ford. Good luck with getting your goat fixed.
