This 5er has been cared for since we bought it new in 2005. We are retired and travel without kids. I have made numerous upgrades to this unit, don’t even remember how many. Just to mention a few: Fire place with stone mantel, 32” HD TV with DVD player and hookup to PC, Rear view pan and tilt camera, under belly camera to monitor all tires, electric dump valves for Black and Gray water tanks operated from outside or inside of 5er, 1200watt inverter (12VDC to 120VAC), electric pilot light igniter for oven, plexy glass pull out pantry, pots and pans pullout drawers, compressor for tires and king pin air bag, 5th Airborne pin box, Landing gear stabilizers, Remote control for landing gear. 2 each 6 Volt golf card batteries (5 month young) I also upgraded the wheels and tires from the original 15” to 16” just 4 month ago; all chrome rims including 2 spares.
Replaced the sofa (I always hated this sofa) with a futon sleeper just 2 days before we left for the Rally at Mount Rushmore.
The trailer is very clean and in great condition. Estimated miles traveled, 14-16K miles.

Every modification and addition is documented in drawings or pictures. The original trailer documentation from Forrest River is also available.

Yes we did. It is the new 3550RL with all the trimmings. (standard paint job.)
We could not resist the temptation. This is quite a switch from wanting a smaller unit, but what the heck, we only live once.
We are still on the road for another week. Currently we are hanging out at the National Monument in Utah.
If you know of anybody that is looking for a 5er, please pass it on. We need all the help we can get.

Robert when I sold mine I put it on Craigs List and it sold in a week.

I have seen some pictures of Roberts Bird.... great looking unit...
I wish I could swing the deal.. I would jump on that unit in a flash...

Cowtown, I was just going to e-mail you about Roberts trailer.
Robert has a perfect trailer that has been well maintained, he is always doing great mods that improves the rigs looks and performance.
If you are still looking and can swing the cost of Roberts unit you will be better off then dealing with a RV dealership selling you a unit with a unknown history.

Are still trying to work a deal on the first unit you found?

Thanks for your input and encouraging words. Hope someone will appreciate and enjoy all the mods I made on this rig. When we get home I will do some local advertising, paper and Craigs list.
Now I get to start all over again with the mods.

Thanks, Mike, I went back and read his post that I had missed! We are in the middle of stripping out our Bird (carpet) of the furniture and should begin the process of cutting and laying the new one within the week! (had not had time to read "new posts"...

Sure will! It is supposed to be in the first part of next week.. we have to get the edge bound in the slide, which will take about a week, we are told. Meanwhile, we can be working on the other parts. It is a Berber made form recycled plastic, and will be stain free - I am really excited about the whole project! The rig is emptied of sofa, recliners, and benches and table and we will do that first, then move the mattress and bedside cabinet down to the living room area to do that. Will be posting pix when done! d
