Workkamping

Post by Secondhand Mike »

I retired last year in April and started traveling in the camper fulltime although we had lived in it for two years already. After I retired and the rallies were done we came to Arizona for the winter and I became bored not working. I volunteered at the park we are in to do whatever they needed done. I was put to work sweeping the streets and I was not expecting to be paid for the work. I just wanted to stay busy. Later they bought me a backpack blower which did a much better job than the broom and was much easier. Cherryl was asked if she would be interested in working in the office and she accepted the offer. Today we met the owner and he was very pleased with how the streets looked and he liked our Ky. Hillbilly accent and we will be hired next year for a couple days each week or more and we are being paid for the work we have done already. Also one of the other workers here has us a job lined up in South Dakota from Memorial Day until Labor Day 2017. We were also called by TNT fireworks and asked to run the fireworks tent in our hometown again this year. Rally money. :d :d

We enjoy doing it Dave. I don't want to do more than a few hours a week. Maybe enough hours to pay for the site. I don't believe it would be fun to do if I had to do it. Good luck with your application.

I hear you Mike about a few hours, not looking for a job just enough to pay for the campsite. right now just looking at Federal Lands, some provide a full hook up and a propane allowance to meet and greet and some other chores.

We have a very nice ACOE campground here, Bulltown Camp, It is very clean and in a good location for summer work camping. They are usually looking for help. They have a special isolated camping area for the workers. Just wanted to let you guys know, it would be close to home for both of you. Check it out on the ACOE web site.

Thanks for the tip but we will be spending our summers in Ohio where I will still have a wood shop and be close to family, friends and church. At least right now that is the plan

Another place to look for Camphost positions is a company called American Land and Leisure. They are a clearing house for positions at quite a few National Forest Campgrounds.
