Will I ever quit banging my head on my 5'er

Post by mcdonell »

I have had my Cardinal for 8 years and I still bang my head on a regular basis on a compartment door or bedroom slide. I always mutter, I hate 5th wheels, rub my head, and go on till the next time. Year before last, my 55 yr old younger sister knocked herself out on her Cedar Creek bedroom slide. I know I am not alone as I have seen swimming pool noodles on some slide out corners. Besides wearing a helmet, which I have thought seriously about, anyone have this issue figured out.

Not sure I posted this in the right spot but I figured the full timers must have some techniques worked out. Seriously, this problem is one of my main reasons for thinking about going back to a bumper pull. Well this, and rolling down the stairs. :d

Appreciate any thoughts and photos.

Me too, that's why I posted. I am still rubbing my head. Wish those compartment doors were hinged differently somehow.

Only have two slides, and after 6+ years I still bang my head on the bottom of bedroom slide when I get in a hurry. No scabs yet!

My compartment doors have the hinge at the bottom the door opens down, so no problem there. I have hit my head on the bedroom slide. I'm wondering if hanging streamers or some sort of curtian from the bottom edge of the slide would help.

I don't hit my head too often, but I am only 5'6" tall. I do believe that after 28 years in a chemical plant and wearing a hard hat everyday that I have some kind of 8th sense about avoiding "head bangers"

I will also suggest that you do not wear long bill caps or hats while walking around the camper. They block you vision enough that you will not notice things above. That is why hard hat bills are very short.

Guess being short has its advantages, I can walk under all of it, never hit my head, but hubby has banged the top of his many times. Trick with pool noodles is to not put them on the corners, but hanging down from the corners.

I am one of the Geeks with the swimming pool noodle on the edges of my slides. Tried it after darn near knocking myself out on two consecutive pulls. Since then, i have not had one scab or bruise on my scalp. It works really well at dusk or in the dark Not the prettiest solution but it didn't cost much and it works better than anything else I have seen.
