Since I am mostly looking down to where I step I use an orange cone. Started that after I had a bad bump at Yellowstone on the bedroom slide that nearly knocked me out :( Haven't hit my head since :thumbrt:

I knew I wasn't the only one bangin his noggin. I also figured there would be some ideas out there.

I like the idea of the traffic cone and not having a long cap bill. I am also going to use the noodles and lower them a few inches below the corners. Noodles look bad, but I don't care much about how I look these days. If fat and bald, are ever in style, I am ready. But surely fat, bald, with scabs on the head, looks even worse. Thanks everyone. :D

My husband was getting into the front cargo one time and didn't duck enough and hit the latched up door, about scalped himself. Those openings and slides are dangerous. I like the cone idea, cause yes you are usually looking down to watch your step. We have some small ones I think I will put in the camper to go with the corner noodles, thanks for the idea. :thumbrt:

Last summer I hit my head pretty hard on the king pin. It knocked me down but not out. I was on blood thinners at the time so it was a bit of a mess. I felt my neck squish when I hit. I've been visiting the doctor ever since because of some dizzy spells. The doctor thinks I damaged a vertebrae in my neck and there is a pinched blood vessel. I have an appointment for a CT scan in June. It can be a very serious injury. My wife wants me to crawl on my hands and knees whenever I get close to the 5th. I bought a hard hat ... It has a peak but I turn it backwards. I have several red vinyl tape streamers hanging from the underside attached with plastic clothes pins. That seems to help. I may beg for some crime scene tape from the local police and give that a try!

I like this idea the best because after a couple of days I'd forget why I put the cone there and walk into the camper while looking down at it wondering why it was there! =))

LuvRving, I can easily see how someone could get seriously hurt. Hope you get that all behind you soon.

I was pleased to read all of these ideas. I like the streamer idea. I have a couple of traffic cones on order and have already started using the swim noodles on the slides. We usually have our bicycle helmets on hand and I may start wearing that at times. I always put my tripod on the hitch when it is not on the truck. The tripod keeps me and others away from the hitch. As we all know, these 5er slides, doors, and hitches can be dangerous.

Great... As a new Cardinal owner and at 6-2, I get to look forward to this, cause now that I have read this, it is inevitable that it will happen now.

Well if you do any kind of traveling at all you WILL hit your head on something. Not wearing a hat does help but I still do it. I have taught Susanna some new words afterwards also.

Swede it is not a case of if but when and how often! I have a few scars on the top of my head and I am only 5"8', As Mike said wearing a hat or cap often restricts your view and you hit your head but wearing a hat or cap can make the consequence of hitting it a little less damaging!

On our last big trip out I ended up in urgent care in Idaho at 9pm at night getting 8 stitches. Nearly knocked myself out hitting the bedroom slide out. Got a nice scar :d

John, my husband, keot hitting his head on the bedroom slide. He installed two snaps on the corners and now he snaps two streamers hanging down everytime the slide goes out. He found that the streamers are with in his head down vision and it helps remind him when to duck. @-)
