Trailer saver hitch BD3

Discuss with others about towing. What is the best tow vehicle, hitches, brake controllers, etc, keeping in mind that everybody has his/her favorite.

The BD3 is a very nice hitch and was on my list before I settled on my B&W. The primary reason I didn't get the BD3 was the cost and since we don't average more than 30 nights out a year I couldn't justify it with the budget committee (my lovely wife :d ). I believe Nick (Jacknife) has one and I'm sure he'll be on and respond.

My trailer ended up being to heavy for the BD3 (17,804 lbs). So I went with the TS3 trailer saver hitch. Now just can't wait to receive the camper.

A good move since the BD3 is 18,000 rated. They both are great hitches. I have had mine for 3 yrs with 0 issues. Just be careful when you unhook. I usually run the feet down until the 5 th wheel is almost fully extended then I pull out . Reason being is to keep the top of the bed from contacting the bottom of the trailer. They are real easy to hook up too. There is also a hole on the other side that you can put a padlock in so no one can pull the pin on you when hooked up and not near your rig.Be sure to keep the shafts greased for smooth operation. Best thing you could do for your new Bird to minimize road shock. Makes for a much smoother ride in the truck also :thumbrt:

I would try the hitch out before putting out the money for a side winder. Hensly also makes a slider , which I have and can remember using twice might be cheaper then a sidewinder . I have a short bed truck.

A lot of people told me, with the way they design the front of the 5th wheelers now you don't need a slider. If there's a chance it can happen I just want one less thing to worry about when I towing my new bird.

When you unhook do you have to take the air out of the hitch? Thanks for the helpful hint about putting the feet down that would be the last thing I want.

We're been using a BD3 hitch for the last 3 years and love it.

It depends on the trailer wt. The instructions mine came with said the center of the posts that the head slide up and down on. You do not have to take the air out when unhooking.
