Swivel wheel trailer

Discuss with others about towing. What is the best tow vehicle, hitches, brake controllers, etc, keeping in mind that everybody has his/her favorite.

There's a lot about Vehicle Licencing I don't understand, not surprisingly. Requiring a CDL with a doubles endorsement for a platform fixed to your 5er that has a swivel wheel is one. And how most states require a pick-up slide in camper to be registered and have a plate is another. It all comes down to how much money they can get out of us I guess. It sure doesn't involve safety or driver skills.

Enjoy yours, and I'm jealous!

I don't understand all the licensing issues either, and I see these things everywhere without tags so I'll just risk the consequences and work toward that A license.

I'll be interested to hear how your's does. My wife has a handicap scooter that we carry with us and it's a real pain if we stop at a mall or tourist spot and I have to unload it for her. I have to unhitch the trailer. We looked at one on line and they sent us a brochure. A little pricey but may well be worth it if we don't have to register it. The one we looked at even had one made especially for handicap scooters with only a 12" load height.
Hope to hear more from you soon.

The one made for handicap scooters is not suposed to be used behind a 5th wheel, please see the link earlier posted as there can be interference with ground clearance. The 4 ft by 6 ft might be a better option, using the 7 foot 3 piece ramp was very secure riding the motorcycle up and was not very steep. I strap my ramp on the trailer in front of the motorcycle and that works well. I will post more on towing it as we will do about 1000 miles in the next week and a half.

According to a TX DPS officer here in Rockport, licensing depends on the state where the rig is registered. A class A Texas license should cover Bruce in all 50 states. But...
If the officer does not realize this, or is without access to TX codes, it may be a lot of hassle.

Here is the update on first day's real tow. It is loaded with a Suzuki 650, an adult tricycle, and 3 piece ramp. It did everything it was advertised to do with no problems in over 200 miles. The only issue I see that no one had discussed in the reviews is when we hit some rain the wheel throws road grime up onto the rear window and the seats of both bikes. Not really an issue as we always had some dirt flying onto the bike and window previously, just mentioning it for info. Nice to use so far! :bounce:

Bruce,
You might try one of those covers they make for the ATVs the XXL size might cover you bike and a grill cover might work on the trike. We use one on my wife's scooter when we're pulling with the pickup.

Thanks Bruce. We saw a Cardinal with one pulling in to Ft. Wilderness at Disney. They were toting their golf cart on it. :D It was a LOOOOONG Cardinal, they were definitely braver than us pulling that combo.

Did you take to tag-along trailer on the trip you took last week? If so any additional comments on how it performed?

The tag along goes everywhere the 5ver does, no choice being full-timer. It now has about 1600 miles, the only problem experienced is the original tire had a bad bead (bulged) after the initial voyage (500 mi). Replaced it with the spare and got a new tire mounted on that rim as a spare, the next 1100 miles have been trouble free. :thumbrt: It will also go to the TN and PA rallies with us starting out in April.

IM going to have to check this out at the PA ralley, Id love to get me a dirt bike to ride around. When I say dirt bike I just ride easy, about 14 years ago I picked up a dirt bike, well I was trying to ride it like I rode the Hodaka when I was a kid, needless to say the bike won and I ended up with 7 broken ribs. Since then we have changed to 4 wheels, we have a CanAm 650 2 up that we ride. On week ends a group of us get together and ride, up hear in the Alleghany mountains if your from here their are miles and miles of trails.

The Goldwing really should use the dual wheel model, it has a swivel and wheel at each rear corner. My single wheel version is rated for 1000 lbs, but does wobble a bit when I ride the 350 lb Suzuki 650 up the ramp. Not enough to be spooky but I'd be more cautious putting a heavy cruiser on it.
