the best (in my opinion) temporary solution to a disk that won't stay is to put Vaseline on it and the pinbox, it will stay long enough for you to back under it. This thread reminded me how ours falls off so I ordered a new one after I posted the other day, Cheep enough to not be worth the hassle of messin with the old one! :thumbrt:

I wouldn't worry so much about the screws scarring the head. The screws will most likely be a lot softer steel than the head. I'd be more concerned about the screw heads getting worn down to where you would have a heck of time removing the screws when it came time to replace the disk.
The suggestion sounds like it came from someone who never used a disk or pulled a 5er and he was MSU.

I have had a spare one behind the seat in the TV for 4 years, as I thought my old one from a trailer I bought in 1997 was about to give up and fall off. But it is still doing the job on it's second trailer.

There are different quality and thickness of available.

if your disc is falling off, take a hammer and beat the little finger in the middle and they will expand and become tight again

The manual for our hitch said to use a 12” disk, had to order it because the dealer only had 10” or maybe it was 8” in stock, I don't recall. The dealer said it was unusually to use a disk that large. They were even surprised to see they could get them that size. Only been using in for a year but it works great.

I got mine from CW and just leave it on the pin. I've NEVER heard of attaching it with screws to anything, it is supposed to float between the pin box and the hitch, when it wears out, replace it. Grease where there is metal to metal contact (the pin and hitch jaws) and keep the grease off the disk. If you don't, it'll wear faster because the grease will pick up grit, and besides, you bought the disk to get away from the mess in the first place. Or I did. Also I have a 10" disk, which is larger then the bearing surface of the pin box, so I never figured out where the 12" recommendation came from. Possibly a computer text editor.
