5th Wheel Hitch latch

Discuss with others about towing. What is the best tow vehicle, hitches, brake controllers, etc, keeping in mind that everybody has his/her favorite.

5th Wheel Hitch latch

Post by Judi »

I hope this makes sense.....the area of my 5th wheel hitch where you have to take that piece and latch it closed is getting rusty and hard to latch...is it ok to put WD40 or some other lubricant on there so it will be easier to latch down and paddlelock? I had heard never to grease anything for fear that arm might come out...I know I am not explaining this the best way...but hopefully you will know what I am talking about...thanks!

Judi,
Should be fine. Just use enough to do the job. WD 40 is not grease and you would have to do again as needed.

Hi Judi, I put a small amount of axle grease on the moving parts a few years ago and it made the latching and releasing much easier and smoother.

I use what they call "farmers grease" on the hitch moving parts, the jaw and the hitch pin on the trailer. It's water and weather resistant and cheap. Sticky as all get out, too, I forgot once to wear gloves and it took forever to clean my hands, even with GoJo. I found it at the local AutoZone parts store.
