Hitch Noise

Post by Traveler II »

We have a Reese 18K hitch. When we first started using it there was little noise, but now it started making strange noises especially when turing, it makes popping sounds. We use a 12” lube plate, if fact I just put a few one on. I grease it before each trip and check all the bolts to make sure they are tight. I use grease on the king pin. Is this normal?

You sure its not the suspension on your trailer popping when you turn? I have a reese 20k but I use a lube plate and just put lithium on the hitch springs and bearing grease where the hitch head sits on the mount.

I started out with a Reese then went to an air ride hitch. Both of them pop, squeak and sound like they're coming out of the bed. I too have check, lubed, adjusted and tighted. And it still makes noise. :((

We have Center Point Air Suspension on the trailer and there is some noise that we've had from the beginning, but this is different, it comes from the hitch.

I have the DrawTite 18K hitch Signature hitch. The only time I've had the noise you describe it was caused by the lugs that engage the hard points mounted on the frame, one loosened up. I tightened all four as tight as I could get them with the hitch mounted and locked in place and the truck on a level surface so there was zero chance of frame flex. With the side to side tilt on this hitch I don't get the noise caused by the king pin binding during sharp turns.

I like the "search" box. Answered my question about using a lube plate on my new Reese 20k.
Thanks :thumbrt:
