Drove a 2011 Silverado

Discuss with others about towing. What is the best tow vehicle, hitches, brake controllers, etc, keeping in mind that everybody has his/her favorite.

This is out of their book: The electronic onboard warning system will provide a message alerting the drier when the DEF level is around 1,000 miles remaining range.

Additional messages that must be acknowledged alert the driver at the 300 mile, LOW and 0-mile fluid ranges as the DEF tank gradually empties. The fluid level in the DEF tank must be maintained for the vehicle to run correctly. If the DEF tank is allowed to run empty, the system will alert the driver. if fluid is not added at the net vehicle start, the vehicle speed will be limited to 55 mph and ultimately to 4 mph in accordance with federal requirements.

Rob - you're correct, I miss read the manual. It gives a warning message at 800 miles at 300 miles and below it gives a message + chime. You can also do a system check and it will tell you if the DEF tank is less than 1/2 full. It is a 5 gal. tank.

Very similar language in the Ford manual. The speed limitations and other low DEF actions seem to be government mandated.

True, but I don't think there will be much to put up with. If it's brought in at least every 5000 miles for service the DEF will be refilled just like they refill the windshield washer fluid every time the truck is serviced.

HOLY COW, If I went to the dealer every 5000 miles, I would be there every other week!!!!!!!!!!!!!-------------OUCH :-ss

But the New Trucks sure are pretty................(I mean Tough looking)...... :-B ) I saw a real Beauty of a 2011 F-450, or F-550 at the high end RV park , here in T.C. the other day.............White, with the grille/logo on the edge of the hood...............................................Course, the 5th wheel they had was no slouch either. :D

Well It is all highway miles, I usually go, 10,15 thou. between oil changes, depends how it looks, and I get oil testing every so often. I know a lot of other people who run like I do, run synthetic........................ but I am kind of warry about switching.....................with the number of miles on old fashion oil. One of the drivers I know, runs 10 tho miles, changes filter, 10 tho ,more , filter, and at 30 thou full change.

My truck has had rotella since it was new (per original owner) ..and it is what I run also.

Well he did it and what a nice new ride it is, they keep increasing the weight limits and building these things stronger with larger frames, more power, larger disc brakes and the all new turbo brake.
Wow Mike is going to really leave me in the dust pulling now, does the Ford also come with the Turbo Brake that is what sold me on my GMC Topkick truck.
