SuperGlide Newby <<HELP>>

Discuss with others about towing. What is the best tow vehicle, hitches, brake controllers, etc, keeping in mind that everybody has his/her favorite.

SuperGlide Newby <<HELP>>

Post by Parno »

I've been towing 5th wheels for 15 years

We have new {to us} Cardinal and Dodge P/U.

I found a #3300 Superglide w/rails&pins locally at a very good price. It is sitting in the bed of my tuck, too heavy for me to move it! I am not planning on installing the hitch until spring, could work on it this month but probably too cold. I would like to hang the hitch on the camper.

I've ordered the required brackets.

I ASSUMED that I could hitch to the Cardinal pin and use the Cardinal to lift it clear from the bed.

Wrong, the hitch will not close and latch.

Do I have to install a capture plate to close the hitch?

Suggestions?

I have a Super Glide slider hitch for my short bed Ford. There is a plate that needs to be welded to the trailer pin box for the hitch to work. Your dealer should be able to get one and install for you. I've heard that there is now one available that clamps on to allow for removal to pull the trailer with a conventional hitch that may also be an option for you.

I understand the the 'Capture Plate must be there to have the hitch lock up. Certainly not a plus feature. Next question, If you truck fails, can a conventional hitch hook-up with said plated welded on?

IMy BIL has the bolt-on plate for that reason. It allows you to take it off in the event that someone else needs to tow your trailer. You may want to contact Pull Rite and find out if they have it.

Our plate is bolted so it can be easily removed. The dealer ordered it when he ordered the hitch.
