Hitch Locks
Does anyone lock their hitch to the truck bed? If you do, what do you use?
Thanks

Re: Hitch Locks
I drilled out two of the pins and use 2" shank padlocks at opposite corners. More keeping pranksters at bay than thief. I pad lock the release hand while traveling also. Chris

Re: Hitch Locks
A bit different situation here, but 8 X grade 8 X 5/16 bolts works for me, guess I should throw in one 3/8 bolt just to make sure they have the whole tool kit!Traveler II wrote:Does anyone lock their hitch to the truck bed? If you do, what do you use?

Re: Hitch Locks
DrawTite/Reese Signature hitches come out of the box with provisions for two small padlocks to keep them in the bed. I use MasterLocks, after almost 5 years they still work fine.

I replaced one of the hitch pins with a locking style. I keep it lubed with never seize.

Re: Hitch Locks
Before I pull, I do a complete walk around, at every stop. Including rest areas. Old habit from flying.bfast54 wrote:I use a Hitch Lock cam from Reese, and that is to keep Honest people , honest...............And keep jokers at truck stops from having fun.....It does happen
I worry more about the hitch taking a walk, without the 'Bird sitting on it, overnight.

Jeff.................Know what you mean about the walk around..................................I always do that after a stop also.
When ever I leave an Emergency Scene, I always do a walk around of the "rig" ...............that carries over to my R.V.

Re: Hitch Locks
I did this and with a bed cover its out of sight from walkersby. If they want it bad enough they'll probably steal the truck.snoking wrote:I drilled out two of the pins and use 2" shank padlocks at opposite corners. More keeping pranksters at bay than thief.
I use a pin with a wire clip as a safety lock on the release arm. I would not recommend a lock with a key as you or others may need to unhitch immediately in an emergency.
I do the "walk around" when I get out of the truck and before I get in the truck. Sometimes twice if I'm not sure (senior moment).

Re: Hitch Locks
I use this Hitch Lock dont know why if they wanted to steal the head they could. Also I use a combo padlock so them sometime nasty truckers can't release the pin. I have seen this happen about 6 times to people over the years.

Re: Hitch Locks
I do the same thing John when the truck and trailer have been out of sight which is very seldom. The primary thing I look for is making sure the release handle has no been pulled.Travelers wrote:I do the "walk around" when I get out of the truck and before I get in the truck. Re: Hitch Locks
I’m going to order some locks, I have a place on my release handle that I can put a lock on also.
Isn’t it to bad that we need to worry about thing like this. Remember when you were a kid; keys were left in the car, didn’t lock the house, pick up hitchhikers. O well, so much for the good old days, it is what it is.
Now where did I put that lock for the computer?
