Curt 24K Hitch

Discuss with others about towing. What is the best tow vehicle, hitches, brake controllers, etc, keeping in mind that everybody has his/her favorite.

Curt 24K Hitch

Post by LuvRving »

I got my new fifth wheel hitch installed in my new truck last week. The Curt 20K that I ordered didn't arrive in time so they gave me the Curt 24K at the same price. No complaints there! I am a little disappointed with a couple of minor things I guess. There are 2 windows on the locking bar that shows green when you are locked up and ready to tow. They are supposed to be able to be seen from inside the truck through the back window. That's not possible unless you are sitting in the back seat! It will certainly be impossible when I get my toolbox installed. I'm thinking a mirror may do the trick.

The other thing is the location of the grease fittings. It looks like a very tight spot to get the grease gun in there. It may be OK when I actually give it a try. The manual doesn't say anything about the frequency for greasing the hitch. Any suggestions? Also, there seems to be a lot of springs and fittings under the plate that might rust. I am wondering if a shot of heavy duty Rust Check might help there?

All in all it looks like a great hitch!

I have a wiring harness and 7-pin connection in an aluminum box that made myself that I will install along the inside of the bedrail when the weather gets a bit warmer!

You might want to get a hose extension for your grease gun, it'll make getting to those tight places easier.

I have the Curt 20K and love it. I use a regular grease gun with out problems at the beginning of each season. The jaws will close manually to reach the center fiting, spray all the springs and areas of movement with Boeshield T-9 and grease the hitch pin to help when it enters the jaws. I don't use the green/red marks just listen for the jaw bar to snap into place. Then visually check the jaws and insert the bar pin then do a pull check with the landing gear just off the ground. When I hitch up I raise the hitch plate just off the hitch head and back into place.
