Ford 2012 F350 CC SWB SRW 6.7 PS Towing vs. DRW

Discuss with others about towing. What is the best tow vehicle, hitches, brake controllers, etc, keeping in mind that everybody has his/her favorite.

Mabeer:

I just thought of one other point I might call to your attention. When we get into the longer Cardinals most of the additional length is added to the rear of the axles. Also on my 34QS(39-40') they installed the fresh water tank at the very back where my previous 32CKT(36') was in the center. I always leave home with a full water tank so with the exta four feet in length behind the axles plus the weight of the water my actual pin weight is several hundred pounds lighter than my previous 2002 32CKT. You may find your actual pin weight is much lighter than some of the shorter trailers with a lower GVRW. Don

Well I disagree there is more weight on the truck then the old days. That is how they maintain the 16k over all weight. Yes you can reduce pin weight by putting fresh water in but the axles on the new trailers have been moved back to put more weight on the truck.

Some older, smaller models have a heavy pin weight, and the fresh water tank at the very rear, like the 'Bird. 2500# pin weight with full fresh water. After a year of towing the 'Bird with a '05 F250 V10 with all the heavy suspension options I could order, and finding myself looking at air bags, adding the F350 spring spacers, etc., I got my first turbo diesel dually instead.

I have the identical truck as yours except mine is a LWB. I assure you that you should be sleeping good as you have nothing to worry about. With that size unit and 7000 lb axles I'm sure it will come with "G" rated tires on 110 lb rims. I recommend you install a set of air bags, hook on and go and don't let some of these good folks make you over think things. My unit is a 34 Quad Side and is 39-40 ft pin to ladder. With your new 6.7 you won't even know its back there. Don
It will not come from the factory with G rated tires or 110 lb wheels, as Mike said factory tires are Goodyear Marathons E rated 80 lb rated wheels.

We are starting to see post and talk about new owners concern about pin weight and needing air bags on the newer trucks. I cannot speak for the new Ford owners but you will not need air bags on the newer GM trucks even with 3,000 lb. pin weight thay stay level when loaded.
