Toyota
Guess we should all go out and buy a Toyota truck. Maybe its just me but that commercial of it towing the space shuttle kills me. Does not take a whole lot of torque to get that much weight rolling on a flat smooth surface. I guess you have to give Toyota credit to make future truck owners think they can go buy a Tundra and take the space shuttle camping but for some reason it cant be used pull my 5th wheel?

Re: Toyota
Have you seen charity events where you get teams together to pull an airplane? We've seen a number of those advertised when we were in the DC area. So if a bunch of people can grab a tow rope and pull on an airplane, I can see how a truck could pull a space shuttle.

Re: Toyota
If it would have towed the one of the Space Shuttle travel dollys from Bullhead City to the top of Union Pass then they would have done something! Other than that it was just meaningless grandstanding! Chris

Re: Toyota
Not to mention all of the strobe lights used to simulate camera flashes Oh well the big three would have done the same thing but Toyota beat them to it.

It may have been fairly flat but there was nothing about the route they took that was smooth!Mike Clay wrote: Does not take a whole lot of torque to get that much weight rolling on a flat smooth surface. Re: Toyota
The travel dollys have motors that moved the Shuttle own its own, Toyota worked out some deal to look like it pulled the Shuttle across that one section of bridge.

Working on a plan now to fit the Smart Car on one and then still hitch the trailer. Do ya'll think I can get by without investing in air bags?

Re: Toyota
I can hear the RV salesmen now....'Mr. Smith, your Toyota will pull any trailer or 5th wheel we have on the lot...after all, it towed the shuttle with no problems!'

Put the Gentle Giant on a dolly and pull the whole thing with a Toyota.campswithcritters wrote:Working on a plan now to fit the Smart Car on one and then still hitch the trailer. Do ya'll think I can get by without investing in air bags?
Actually I'm surprised Toyota hasn't hit the market with a 1 ton pickup yet.

Re: Toyota
Toyota does make some larger vehicles in other areas of the world. Example: In Nigeria my company owns 2 ea 40 passenger dually buses, they are eqipped with 2.8 liter non-turbo diesel engines. They work fine in city traffic as long as it is not moving too fast or going uphill!

You haven't been to Michigan for long enough yet! I've seen some awful small vehicles pulling some awful big trailers and boat trailers.Mike Clay wrote:I guess you have to give Toyota credit to make future truck owners think they can go buy a Tundra and take the space shuttle camping but for some reason it cant be used pull my 5th wheel?

So true Bill, last I was up there in both WI & MI about 1/2 of the 5vers in the 36 ft range were pulled by 1/2 ton trucks.bop11 wrote:You haven't been to Michigan for long enough yet! Re: Toyota
The two days it took to move the Shuttle 12 miles was mainly because of size and girth. They hemmed and yawed through many obstacles, staying under two miles per hour. The transporter was an amazing engineering feat. They were afraid of too much momentum even at 2 MPH. At that speed, they were afraid they could not stop it if it went faster. Pickup truck owners always brag about power, but can they stop the load. Ironman competitions have mere men pulling tractors and locomotives which seems impossible. Some E=MC2 going on there. Beyond my math skills. Advertising sells, and we all fall for it. I wish I looked like the guy on the BowFlex commercials...
