how much space should be between top of bed and trl

Most sites recommend 6 inches minimum. I am with Don, at 4 inches I would get very nervous and drive only flat straight roads.

It is amazing how an inclined driveway or entrance can eat up the 4 to 6 inches between truck bed and trailer - corner of one side has a white rub mark to remind me...

I have 6" and have bottomed out more than once. As Mike and others have recommended, I cut a diagonal piece off the trailing edge of my pin box and that has reduced the problem drastically.
