boat hauling

Discuss with others about towing. What is the best tow vehicle, hitches, brake controllers, etc, keeping in mind that everybody has his/her favorite.

boat hauling

Post by mike & linda »

Was considering a porta boat but we have seen some rigs that have a small boat / kayak being hauled over the cab of the truck. Has anyone used this and is hard on the truck?

Have seen over the cab, , you could also double tow a small trailer with them. Double towing is easy, I have a lot of experience and never had a problem.

If you use the search option and put in Kayak Rack there are several pictures of Snokings rack on his pickup.

That was a nice set up. I will do some more searching on line for one. The ones I have seen so far sit on the rear of the crew cab. I would really like to find a set up like the one in Snorkings pics only for the crew cab. I should have taken a welding class when I was younger. Thanks for your help

I never understood why people carry kayaks right side up!!! It rains here in the NW!!!! Stacking them allowed for better stop light viewing.

I like the idea of a box under the trailer for a Porta Boat however.

Here is my setup. I use a Thule rack (you could use a Yakima brand). I have the Thule Hullavators attached and they pull down the side of the truck on hydraulic arms so you only need to lift the kayak to waist height, strap it and lift it back on top. I bought the Hullavator on sale and REI has 20% off sales a couple of times a year.
