Payload of your DRW Trucks

Post by jtaylor1920 »

So I'm starting the slow process of researching a new truck. I haven't settled on a brand yet but I do know I will go DRW as the future trailer will no doubt be bigger and heavier than our 3030. So, as I'm digging through some of the specs I'm seeing a wide variety of payloads, which I know are impacted by all the bling you can add as well as cab selection, but it is interesting to see some of the SRW trucks with the same trim level and cab with higher payloads. Part of me wonders if this isn't a typo on the dealer website but I thought I'd reach out to those of you with DRW trucks and see if you wouldn't mind posting your truck specs:

Brand:
Cab selection:
Trim level:
Payload:

Something like:

Brand: Ford
Cab selection: crew cab long bed
Trim level: Lariat
Payload: 5600 lbs

Thanks for the information.

Often the 4X4 has less payload, approx. 500 Lbs. less due to the extra driveline equipment. The DRW may be similar since the axles, springs, etc. are the same as a SRW 1 ton. Have you built one on line to see how they shake out?

Well the springs are the same plus one, plus the training wheels add a lot to the payload. If they were the same my one ton srw would still be with me. Remember it's not just the overall payload it's the truck and these heavy dang pin weights. John can't remember what the payload is on mine but which ever of the big three you choose will do the job.

John,

My payload is 4640 on my 2008 Ram. It is a long bed Quad cab Dually 4x4 with a manual 6 speed transmission. It has 373 gears and 6.7 L engine. However it only has a GCVWR of 21,000. I had it weighed before leaving for Jackson and it weighed 21,140 lbs. and I have a small trailer. These newer trucks are spouting a lot higher tow ratings.

Ok in 2013 my gvwr is 13,025 lbs and my gcwr is 30,500 payload is around 5,154 this is all based on the crew cab 4x4 drw in 2013 It looks like the 2015 models are about the same.

According to the Ram 2014 specs for a crew cab 4x4 long bed DRW Cummins HD w/aisin tranny - GVW= 14000, Payload= 5430 and GCVW= 32000. My 2014 SRW has a GVW= 12,300, Payload = 4380 and GCVW = 25000. According to my calculations I could ditch my 3025 and pull a 3450. Of course I would be doing this solo since Sandy would make me live in the 3450. =))

Yes, the deal is new truck = new puppy but it doesn't seem fair to me since she'll have 3 dogs and I'll only have one truck. Plus there isn't enough room on the bed for another dog, but if I bought a new truck I guess I'd be sleeping in it so maybe there would be..............

Maybe Laurie will go for one of those bobble head dogs on the dashboard. They don't shed, eat, poop, or take bedspace, :O3

From what l have read on the TDR web site the 16 Ram can be had with 900 lb of torque 385. Hp. 16" rear. GM is also doing something with the Duramax in 16. I imagine the pricewill be up thereno matter what you buy, but with only 4 legged. Kids you can afford it =)) =)) Live by my Brother in laws rule to a happy marriage.
