Re: 2011 Trucks
George on the picture you took of the 2011 Ford looks they are rating that new engine as bull power not horsepower.

Re: 2011 Trucks
Well I did not want to say Ford has a lot of Bull when rating their engine power !
I am really not a Chevy Man, GMC Man, Ford Man or Dodge Man, I am Deal Man.
Best deal sells me the truck.

Re: 2011 Trucks
Not about 2011 trucks, but about the Model T, which had a pickup truck available, up to 1 ton, in any color you want, as long as it Black - 100 years ago.

Chief409 wrote:I'm wondering about the 800 miles range for the DEF statement quoted in this L&MT article, in articles that I've read in other publications, the numbers have been in the 1200 mile range. Quite the difference.
Chris, I think all the light truck diesels will have DEF for 2011 to meet the mandated federal EPA exhaust emissions requirements. Navistar is the only diesel maker who is using a different method, recirculating exhaust gas I think, and Ford and Navistar have parted ways starting with the 2011 trucks.
Chief, as far as I know it is ONLY the Dodge Chassis Cab models that have/will have DEF for the next couple years. Not on the pickup YET! Chris

Re: 2011 Trucks
According to this article it will only be the Dodge chassis cabs that have the DEF. http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2009/03/ch ... -2010.html
I think the article that said 800 miles on the Ford DEF tank was a misprint. Everything I've read says 7,500 - 15,000 miles depending on driving conditions.

That's what I read too. The idea is to top it off when you get the LOF service on the truck.

Re: 2011 Trucks
This is from a Dodge article at http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2009/10/fi ... -3500.html:
RobRam’s DEF-free “Adsorber” catalyst uses expensive precious metals, like rhodium and palladium, to convert NOx to harmless nitrogen gas and water vapor. Those metals peaked in price in 2008, when the global economy was at its hottest, before crashing back down in the last year to much lower levels.Commodity prices are one reason that the 2011 Dodge Ram 3500, 4500 and 5500 Cab Chassis trucks will use DEF systems instead of Adsorber catalysts. However, the Ram Heavy Duty pickups remain urea-free for 2010 and, likely, beyond.

Re: 2011 Trucks
Finally... Here are the pictures and some comments on the features.

For the gadget geeks like me this was fun. There is a 4x4 LED screen in the insturment panel that has a bunch of different 'apps' one of which lets you keep track of multiple trailers (mileage, TBC Gain setting, ...) and it lets you name the trailers.

It also has a trailer connection check list for 5th wheels

the other items in the checklist are:
Landing Gear Raised
Mirrors Adjusted
Kingpin Handle Locked
Electrical Wiring Connected
Lights Functioning
Wheel Chocks Removed
TBC Gain Setting Adjusted
Not a very exhaustive list, but I found it helpful to sit in the truck with the door closed (no interuptions) and go through the check list.
Other features I liked (that aren't as flashy):
They have an additional 7pin electrical connector inside the pickup box, this will keep the cord inside the box if it falls out of the connector. I've heard many stories of people having to replace the cord after it drug on the road for awhile.
The factory installed hitch is great, it eliminated all of the chucking I had with my old hitch. Credit for that of course is due to Reese not Ford. The factory installed hitch is just a re-label of the Reese Signiture Series hitch, but I really like it.
As you can see from the picture, I have towed the camper 632.5 miles and on that trip I averaged 11.9 MPG, so fresh out of the box I'm getting 2+ mpg more with this truck than I did with the '09 F350. So far so good with the new engine.

That's very good mileage especially considering the size of trailer you're pulling. It will be interesting to see what mileage you're getting when the engine gets broken in.rwlouks wrote:As you can see from the picture, I have towed the camper 632.5 miles and on that trip I averaged 11.9 MPG, so fresh out of the box I'm getting 2+ mpg more with this truck than I did with the '09 F350. Gotta love those gadgets!
