Help me decide

We just traded a 2006 F250 6.0 PSD for a 2007 Chevrolet 3500 D-max.
Ford had a lot of problems with the 6.0 when it came on-line. Blowing turbos, manifolds and main seal leaking oil. Now for 2007 they are again changing the engine. Mostly because of the new EPA standards. The PSD will cost you more to maintain. The oil filter from Ford is $80 and it holds 5 more quarts of oil then Chevy.
The Allison transmission seems to be tighter. The power is there when you need it where Ford has a lag it it.
The main reason we switched it comfort. Chevrolet rides better, whether empty or loaded. Our Ford did get a little better fuel milage, maybe because of the duel wheels on the Chevrolet.
I didn't mean to rag on Fords. They are a fine truck and alot of people wouldn't own anything else. For our money, Chevy is the truck.

Chevrolet is comming out with this feature for 2007. Well since I have owned 5 CTD I guess I am happy with my truck. I have the six speed with an exhaust brake. This truck is the only truck I have kept stock except the air intake. It pulls well and I get around 12 mpg towing. My Prodigy brake controller works just fine.

That does seems high for an oil filter. My previous truck was a diesel and it ran me $75 for a lube-oil-filter at the dealer. I don't know how many miles you have on your Chevy but if it's still new the mileage will increase as the engine and transmission get broken-in.

Still at work over on the other side of the world. Not fully decided yet, I want an accurate weight since we just loaded it for full timing. Over the years I had a bit better luck with the bowtie brand than the blue oval in gassers, and my DW is a strong influence for the chevy (heck if she wasn't a strong influence we'd keep the CTD with manual trans!). Think I'll just go give em a drive and see who wants to sell trucks! Prices can usually get interesting this time of year. Should be hitting the dealers in about a week.bop11 wrote:Hey CWC,

Yea, that price thing will truly make a difference. That's the reason I have a Dodge. I used to be a died in the wool bow tie nut. The day I was ready to deal the Chevy dealer wanted to sell me a 1/2 ton 4wd with only an extended cab for the same price as I bought the 3/4 ton Dodge 4x4 crew cab with the Cummins engine. I sure am glad that happened because at that time a 1/2 ton with that little 327 engine would have taken care of my towing needs. (The Red Bird was just a dream.)
Now that I've had the Dodge for almost 3 years I think the only thing I may change is to push it up to the 3500. Only to add a little to the GVWR for full timing.

CWC, Sorry but I'm about 2 years away from even thinking about another one.
I've been wondering if the Cummins 5.9L will still be availible after they introduce that bigger engine. I wish they would'nt mess with a good thing. IMHO the only thing that would improve the 5.9L is make it with a water cooled turbo.

OK folks, decision was made today! Thanks to everyone for their input! After much deliberation and reading etc........... put together a deal today on an 07 Silverado Classic 3500. All the bells and whistles with exception of a sunroof. LT3 package leather heated 10 way adjustable buckets etc. Got over 5K off the sticker and the trade-in value of the Dodge was good. As I need to move the rig Friday I opted to pick it up next Tuesday that will give me time for a hitch install while we sit still at the next stop in Livingston. I know all the trucks on the market have strong and weak points and everybody is proud of their's, so thanks for keeping the discussion civil.
