Re: curt Q5 20K hitch
We have one. Had it installed here in Ga. last April just prior to taking delivery of our new "Bird".
We never had a 5th wheel prior to this one, so we do not have anything to compare with. It seems as if it is a good one.

Re: curt Q5 20K hitch
Thats what I have and its been working fine. I had a Reese Slider before in my short bed ford and it was okay, but I like the way this hitch can be removed in more than one piece that weighs a ton! I haven't had any problems and would recommend it to anyone that is interested...

Hi Dave,
If you are looking for a hitch, think air ride. You wont be sorry. I have one and there is no comparison.

Re: curt Q5 20K hitch
Dave, I have the Reese/DrawTite 18K Signature hitch. I like it for a number of reasons:
1: The hitch is attached directly to the frame, comes apart in two pieces, the head and the frame, and when removed there are no rails in the bed
2: Because the hitch is mounted directly to the frame, with NO attachment to the bed, it is very rigid. I've had the same hitch in 2 trucks, a F250 and the F350 and have never experienced "chucking". The jaw engages the hitch pin without any slack, too.
Hooked up, the 'Bird is "part" of the truck. With the 'Bird's pin weight on the truck springs, plus the rigid hook up, it all results in a very nice ride, even on some of the "best of the worse roads" I've traveled on. Inside the 'Bird, my gauge of ride quality is a partial roll (or empty roll) of toilet paper placed on end, on top the small box enclosing the heat outlet in the toilet. As a rule, the roll is still in place at the end of the day's travel, unless I need to brake hard.

Re: curt Q5 20K hitch
Chief,
Thats the hitch im looking at. I like the idea of no rails. Might go with the 24K. The prices I have are close.

Re: curt Q5 20K hitch
Paul, the 'Bird is our first 5er, and I use the bed of the truck, so no rails and the side to side hitch tilt made the decision. I picked the 18K hitch because the pin box on the 'Bird is 18K, though the 'Bird's GVWR is 12,400# and I like excess capacity in things like hitches and tow vehicles. I just had "beginners luck!"

Re: curt Q5 20K hitch
I had the Curt in my last truck and went to the Reese Signature hitch with the new truck. I switched because I got the factory installed hitch mounts from Ford in the new truck, not because I had trouble with the Curt. The Reese hitch is a lot better than the Curt IMHO. I get no chucking with the Reese hitch and that was a problem with the Curt.

Re: curt Q5 20K hitch
Dave, if yoiu have the trail air, you are good to go. It does a very good job in saving the truck and trailer. As for the Curt I have no experience with them but, being in the business, I have never heard a bad word about them either. By the way...my air ride came with the truck. That said, I would spend the money to replace it if I had to. It is the best I have ever towed with!

Re: curt Q5 20K hitch
Dave,
I had the Curt Q5 for several years and was very pleased with it. The jaws fit nice and tight around the kingpin and you know when it is locked. The only reason I replaced it was because I got the Airsafe 25K. There are a lot of good hitches so check them out.
Good luck.

Re: curt Q5 20K hitch
We have the Curt and like it. It is our first 5er and cannot compare it, but I like the way it comes apart for removal. As we travel I can watch the 5er moving but no movement in the truck and no chucking. I use my bed all the time for work and the bed plates are only about 3/4" high so I use some 1" vinal railing pieces to support and and sile a plywood pull out tray for my tools. Works good.
