Re: First tow
SYNC is part of the Lariat package I ordered, the only reason I didn't get order the Ultimate Lariat package is I don't want a sun roof. And like Mike, I have my own nav system. But, just having the SYNC for the cell phone "hands free" is great. No more ear bug or headset. And you can link up two cell phones, one primary and one secondary, so I can listen to Terry's calls too!

Re: First tow
Yes the hands free is great I can also hook two phones through bluetooth which even with sync you need to have a bluetooth enabled phone. The Ford sync features are nice though.

I've only had one fill-up so I'll check my log and let you know. We're down in Newport now and I'm showing 12.3 mpg on the information center for the whole trip so far.Mike Clay wrote:So Rob what your hand calculated mileage?

Re: First tow
You're killing me Rob! 9.3 mpg at 65 pulling the 'Bird up and over the mountains to Salt Lake City this trip. And 9.8 mpg at the same speeds anywhere without the 'Bird. At least the mpg is consistent!
I just got the last oil analysis report for Bubba, they recommend 7,000 miles per oil change, using synthetic oil, so it looks like the oil change intervals set by the new sensors and computer in the 6.7 equipped trucks is right on.

Gotta love these Fords, check this out!

1914 Model T Ford.
May 31, 1927, the last Ford Model T rolled off the assembly line. It was the first affordable automobile, due in part to the assembly line process developed by Henry Ford. It had a 2.9-liter, 20-horsepower engine and could travel at speeds up to 45 miles per hour. It had a 10-gallon fuel tank and could run on kerosene, petrol, or ethanol, but it couldn't drive uphill if the tank was low, because there was no fuel pump; people got around this design flaw by driving up hills in reverse. Ford believ ed that "the man who will use his skill and constructive imagination to see how much he can give for a dollar, instead of how little he can give for a dollar, is bound to succeed."
The Model T cost $850 in 1909, and as efficiency in production increased, the price dropped. By 1927, you could get a Model T for $290. "I will build a car for the great multitude," said Ford. "It will be large enough for the family, but small enough for the individual to run and care for. It will be constructed of the best materials, by the best men to be hired, after the simplest designs that modern engineering can devise. But it will be low in price that no man making a good salary will be unable to own one — and enjoy with his family the blessing of hours of pleasure in God's great open spaces."

I checked my log and this is what I came up with:Mike Clay wrote:but whats the hand calculated figure
I filled up in Tillamook at 901.4 miles and my previous (first) fill-up was at 600.2 miles. In Tillamook I took 29.66 gallons so that should be 301.2 / 29.66 = 10.15 mpg. I'll be interested in what the next refill shows after the hills, curves, traffic and small towns on the Oregon coast.

So far so good and I'm very happy with the new truck. I only have 1080 miles on it now so we'll see what the next 30,000 miles bring.

Re: First tow
Rob,
Sounds like you way better than that v10 truck. Another 69k miles and the cost per mile will catch the v10.

Re: First tow
So, it sounds like the new truck finely decided to get thirsty, I would have thought you would get 11- 12 MPG towing a lower weight trailer.

Re: First tow
I was surprised by the difference between the indicated mileage and calculate mileage. I did reset the trip-a counter after refueling in Tillamook. I currently show 20.5 gallons used traveling 270.0 miles. I'll hand calculate again the next time I refuel which will probably be Wednesday.
George, I'm not sure the weight is as much an issue as the terrain I've been driving through.
Sadly I have to drive to Reedsport for Internet access as the WiFi at Winchester is down until Tuesday.

Re: First tow
Yep, once you start getting up to the 8000# range it really doesn't change that much when you increase the weight. My Montana weighed 11,000 and the Bird is at 14,000 and I see no difference what so ever in fuel milage.

Re: First tow
As it turns out I filled up today when I found diesel for $3.90 in Florence when all the stations in Reedsport were $4.05 - $4.15 a gallon.Mike Clay wrote:10.15 sounds more like it.
The odometer today was at 1218.2 and my previous fill-up was at 901.4 for a difference of 316.8 miles. I took 24.3 gallons which should come out to 13.03 mpg towing from Tillamook to Winchester Bay. The trip-a counter showed 23.8 gallons used but the attendant at this station clicked it off a couple times before calling it full so the trip counter was very close.
