I agree plus the lower the sulfur the lower the lube. But in the Portland area with 2 to 5% bio you do not need anything else.

Sure hope you are right , Mike. Time will tell. In any case, I am really enjoying my new Ford and I know you like your new Chevy. There was a study done on it and bio at least at the time when this test was done was the best. Yep I enjoy it very much even though my average miles driven per day has gone from 46 to 12 miles per day average. But my miles walked per day is up
so life is good.

One of the few downsides of biodiesel is " Biodiesel may contain small but problematic quantities of water. " The HPFP CP-4 used on the new GM and Ford diesels appears to be effected by water in the fuel more than earlier pumps. That is way I told Rob to not use biodiesel and use Fords fuel additive! CYA!
If water is mixed with the diesel because of an emulsifier, then the water in fuel indicator will not see it and the separator will not remove it. In older engines this was not an issue, they just burned it. With the new generation engines this may not happen as well.
GM as I read it is covering pump failures as normal warranty items, Ford however "may" be trying to push this off on the users as a bad fuel issue that that is not covered by warranty. NOT smart on Fords part!!! As I said earlier, keep a log of all fuelings and additives used. We are a long ways from the earlier diesels that would burn a blend of your old crankcase oil to get rid of it!!!!!
At this point the sky is not falling! The next couple years will shake out what is really going on. For one thing the US standard for ULSD should be increased to the standard that Canada is using, which is higher than ours. Someone asked about going to Mexico with these new trucks! Get the old Cummins 12V in from the back 40 and take it.

Well I do not have a choice since Portland makes it mandatory for bio to be in diesel. Never have had a problem and not saying I won't but it seems even though Ford is using the same pump they seem to be having more problems with it. There is not a lot of pump failures on The Diesel Place in fact the question has come up why Ford seems to be having more problems then GM with the same pump and injectors. Who knows, but the one thing I do know not going to sit and worry about it.

In Minnesota, we have on the books a law that mandates biodiesel. Under the law, B5 biodiesel was mandated in May 2009, increasing to B10 in May 2012 and B20 in May 2015. When it went to B5 in 09 there was some reports of diesels not running in the cold weather, but that was mostly from farm equipment, not from the trucking industry. New equipment doesn’t seem to have a problem, just older trucks. It will be interesting to see what happens when we go to 20%.

One other thing--people were worried that the new requirment might mearn that school buses would break down in cold weather so they made the move to B10 and B20 is seasonal, from April through October.

at the seminar not so long ago''''ford told us that all the 6.7 liters are markrd b20 safe and therefore cannot, not honor a warranty claim caused by its use. As far as additives they told us their 6.0 was designed to run on the government promised minimum 45 cetane rated fuel by 2004......since it seems to average less..like 37 then adding the 4 point cetane boost and lubricity agent to their finiky 6.0 brings the completeness of burn and soot levels closer to what it was designed for. Now the antigel...they had a whole big section on that and why to not use it if you can help it..... It was nice to have the science and real world findings behind the info instead of opinions or hear say
