New Hitch????
New Hitch????
Just bought a new 2012 F250 and was wondering if anyone who has gotten one has had to buy a new hitch??? Can't use the rails from old hitch due to Ford putting the new rails under the bed of the truck. (Has rubber plugs in bed, remove plugs and set new hitch in. Talked to RV dealership and said the new Fords will require a different hitch, to connect them to the truck, I think from Reese. Thanks guys in advance. John

Congrats on the New Ford John. Two people who bought new Fords are Chief409 and Rob and Cathy they will probably be on later and give you their input.

Re: New Hitch????
Congrats on the new truck. I am very happy with mine and I am sure you will be too. My Ford is a short bed, so it did not have the factory option. I believe that your truck is set up for the Reese series that does not require the rails.

Congratulations on the new truck John, you'll love it and have a BSEG while driving especially when towing.
Like Randy, I didn't get the factory installed hitch rails and they are for the Reese Series hitches. I suspect other hitch manufactures will come out eventually with adaptors for the Ford rails and if I'm not mistaken Jeff ordered his new Ford with the factory rails and had to get adaptors for his old Reese hitch.

Re: New Hitch????
Thanks guys and gals for response's, i am enjoying the bseg. I have a drawtite hitch, so I don't think there is a addapter plate for it, talked to RV dealership, said I'd have to order the elete hitch from Reese. I also have a short bed, so they think 1600 for a slider, guess if I can afford a new truck, I can afford a new hitch, said they would give me a trade in allowance for old hitch. We'll see. Again thanks, John

Re: New Hitch????
There an adapter kit for the Signature hitch that replaces the locking lugs with longer ones that I used with the Elite truck mount Ford is using.wild acres wrote:Thanks guys and gals for response's, i am enjoying the bseg. Re: New Hitch????
John:
If you need a new hitch then getting the proper one to fit your under bed rails would probably be the way to go. However, for those of you that want to order the Ford under bed rails(which includes the 7-pin receptical in the bed) or have bought off the lot with this option, there is an alternative. When I special ordered my new truck I also ordered the hitch prep kit because I though it was a good buy. However, I had an almost new 18K hitch with a custom built bed-saver(not a Reese) that I did not want to give up. I ordered a TrailSaver Ford Under Bed Adapter Plate from Hensley that let me mount my present hitch. You just fold out four levers and the whole assembly lifts right out. Its kind of pricey but I'm at the point in life I don't worry about that anymore. You can google "TrailSaver Ford Under Bed Adapter Plate" and see the simple installation. You end up with the same smooth bed floor just like you would with the Reese hitch. Don

Re: New Hitch????
Being new to the 5th wheel world I've only owned one style hitch. It is the B&W Companion. It has worked well for me on my long-bed truck. I like the ease of connecting and disconnecting the RV as well as the ease in removing and installing the hitch. I'm not sure if they make one for a short-bed. I added this in case you for some reason decide to go with an entirely new system instead of your current one. Decisions, decisions!
