Thanks, I really enjoyed this!! Having worked at Ford in Atlanta in late 60's (for a few months) on the assembly line manufacturing Torino''s I am amazed at the process now versus then.

Having worked at Ford for 27 years, most of it working on computer systems destined for the plant floor, I am still amazed every time I go into a vehicle assembly plant. To think that you could unload 10,000+ different parts at one end of the building and drive trucks out the other end boggles my mind.

The place / process has changed a bit since I was there last.
We use to build the engines for a specific vehicle and the transmission for that particular engine in that vehicle. There were acres of engines and transmission in racks (20k of each). Today's powertrain management systems allows the engine and transmission to be somewhat neutrol. The ems is programed once everything is married in the vehicle. Realy minimize complexity / storage (10k).
